That would be the fade out of the mickey mouse ears. That weird stamping makes that notch a 65. Its a weird 65 thing.

Thanks for all the compliments & support. I am really excited to get it going and I will post pix as I proceed on the build (with the help of a few freinds). Jason, I hope to one day take her down to So Cal for the Classic weekend so we'll crack a few cold ones there. But like I said before I'm not going to rush it. I am building it to show in the beginning then when I get bored with shows (which won't take long) my wife and I plan to drive/enjoy her. I've got a '56 single wheel Allstate frame too. I gotto have a box built for it though, then have it painted black and I'll tow it behind the Notch. Ah, projects...

8) Nice. Looks similiar. Here's mine. I had to cut off that fugly steel frame welded on by a long lost PO but it's complete except for the box. I'll find someone to fab me something eventually. Couldn't beat the price...freebie. :o Put a rain-check on the brew...but I'll hold you to it.

one thing though... the swing arm boot should have the screws horizontal, so that the joint can flex rather than compressing.

Technically the seam should be at about 10 o'clock. As you said, you don't want it straight up so it can flex, but you don't want it horizontal so it can leak lube.

They won't leak lub if the joint is made up right. I have been installing them for over 40 years, and have never had a problem. The original instructions from VW on the split boots was to put the seam to the rear with it horizontal.

The guys are coming over on Saturday (weather permitting [-o< ) to mesh the body with the pan. I've got all new stainless steel hardware for the job.

reminds me of the 28 day wonder paint scheme

Shane is being a jealous hater. Seems he's not too fond of the VW scene right now:

Hey, Tram. Do you know what he is refering to? I admit I don't have a clue. :?

I think he's actually referring to a well known shop's 45-day "restoration" of an Oval, that was documented as it progressed in a classified ad running on here a couple years ago. It was painted an obnoxious popsickle orange.
Don't worry- Butterscotch is fine, and your paint doesn't have nearly enough runs in it to warrant the comparison. Trust me- It's a non- issue.

Ahhhh, Thanks. Yeah, I know the car. I remember seeing it in one of the mags. Never seen it "live". And trust me...it wouldn't be an "issue" anyway. It's my car. I pay for it, I do (most of) the work...I do what I want...can't please everyone. If someone don't like my taste, don't look at my car. It's the old "shut up unless you got something nice to say" theory.

Anniehum Thu Feb 23, 2006 10:59 pm

Mark I am with you. If you don't have something nice to say then just shut your pie hole.
Your car will be a beauty and a whole lot of fun.
I will park next to it. Just watch my paint okay?
Cheers

I definatly wasn't putting down your work, it was just the way you had accented the starter & parts of the chassis with the butterscotch it reminded me of the way they had painted the orange & white chassis for the oval. I actually liked it.

I wonder what that white paint looks like now?

60DoubleTurd Thu Feb 23, 2006 11:07 pm

It looks like those axel boots are mounted the same way that Mark had em??? I am not a tranny guy but its looks the same.

  Don't worry, Annie. I know EXACTLY what you mean. You should see me working on the body. Talk about paranoia, especially 'cause the paint is still soft/new...
