Is the opening going to be large enough to get adequate air to the radiator?

maybe, maybe not. i may end up cutting holes in the hood. only some driving time will tell.

You need to find somebody who can do louvers. You need to figure that some driving will be done going slow when there is not a lot of air flow, that is where you are going to have a problem also.

bajaherbie Sun Mar 19, 2006 9:16 am

maybe an electric fan???

takotruckin Sun Mar 19, 2006 4:08 pm

a fan is a given, i had a big 3000 cfm one that came on the T-bird, but now it doesnt fit, so i have to find one that does. im hoping that with a fan, and a huge coolant capacity(5 gallons), i should be fine on cooling.
on those spindle dust caps, any tricks to getting them on? i'm having no luck.
figured out a rear wheel cylinder was leaking, hence the brake prob.

bajaherbie Sun Mar 19, 2006 8:42 pm

look for a piece of pipe or a large socket that fits over the cap and tap firmly until its seated.........

well, i finally dropped the money for rear disk brakes. :P
i got the CB performance kit, with no parking brake, im gonna run a park loc. the parts are all of great quality, and it comes with everything needed. i'd definatley reccomend it for anyone on a budget.
also put in a new master cylinder, now my brake system is all new :P

what do you guys think about those hard lines? they are a little long, should i just bend them up out of the way? or try to get shorter ones?

now i need to get me some of that jc whitney red caliper paint, or, i wonder if it comes in gay blue(like the herbiemobile)

i used a universal throttle cable with a heim end, ran it through the stock tube, then bent up some 5/16 hard steel line to curve it up to the throttle body. it feels very smooth now, much more reliable than how it was before too. now to find a stiffer spring for the return
i let the car idle for about 10-15 min after warming up, with no fan, hood closed, the temp hovered right around 200*. thats with a 180* thermostat. the tbirds regularly run 210-220 with a 190 t-stat and a big fan, i'm sure i'll be fine. now to find a junkyard fan that will fit. next up is to install harnesses, then run it in the desert

If you can afford around $90 this fan would work well.

I had one on my race car, and it kept it cool, and cooled it down fast.

Buy yourself a small tubing bender for fuel/brake lines and shorten that line man! You are likely to have in snagged by a branch or something.

I realize this is from a Toyota truck or 4Runner but I have done this swap and it works nice. And it appears as though your radiator is approximately the same size as mine. Check it out. It uses a 2 speed radiator fan from a Ford Taurus ($30 max from the bone yard) and a dual temp sensor available from all parts stores.

jt, youve got the hot wheels baja? you go to pismo alot huh? im pretty sure ive seen your car there a few times. welcome to the samba, watch it, its addicting

dirtydeedss Thu Mar 30, 2006 10:37 pm

hey takotruckin the supports for your front end did you run them through the firewall and into your roll cage or what did you do??

jt1872001 Fri Mar 31, 2006 9:46 pm

it works perfect... i have no windsheild.. and there is a pusher type fan on it[/img]

takotruckin Sat Apr 01, 2006 5:02 pm

yeah, the top ones are through the firewall, and into a cross beam under the dash. the lowers are bolted to the two pan bolts right under the firewall

well, as most of you know i broke the splines out of my torsion housing. i have since welded in a hd swayaway center section. im also in the process of building new polyurethane isolated tranny mounts. the car was REALLY loud inside, so im gonna try to quiet it down. i got two 944 cv joints, for $32 shipped(label said shipping was $29, someone didnt make much money..) so i need two more cvs and stub axles. for the moment i have decided on just 944 cvs with stock beefed arms. im not sure if the bars will take the weight with longer arms. i might change my mind soon though. im wanting some more bump travel, so what do you guys think about tubbing my fenderwells something like this

should get at least two more inches of bump travel without hitting the ground...

btw, the radiator cooled fine. only time it got over 190-200* was the slow drive back to camp after i broke the housing..

takotruckin Sat May 27, 2006 5:42 pm

well, got my trans mounted- isolated with urethane bushings. notched the spring plates about 1/2 an inch, decided to stop at 20 degrees. type 4 cvs are supposed to max at 22, so i figured 20 would be safe. also got my new tires mounted up. 31x10.50 bfg A/ts. they leave me with about 1/2" of clearance at the torsion tube on the spring plate. decided on using 4-5 lug adapters on the rear, and am gonna use 5 lug wheels all the way around, got em free. time to POR15 them black.
here's the car at full droop

i have ALOT more clearance in the back then before. ending up with 9" of travel out of stock arms, im happy with it, for now...

tell me about the front wheels, they look stock but a bunch wider.......

I think the rim is too messed up to fix.

i think you about got it. i found them out in our yard. the beads are really rusted up, so they only hold air randomly, whenever they want to. i have a pair of skinnier ones to match the rear, just need to have them mounted
