Went to a junkyard today, and found a vw engine with a pretty decent 26 VFIS carb on it with oil filter bath - top of which was dented in quite a bit.
Just was curious what the need/ interest is in these, & how much would they go for?
Thanks

26? I know 28's are on 36hps. The 26's must be on the 25hp. What car did they come out of and is there a engine?
Hard to get a rebuild kit for a 26 I imagine. Its worth a nice penny I would believe. How much you want for it? |

Since the engine was out ; an a few splits were nearby, I imagine it came from one of those.
Carb kits are still around........

neat how few parts there are.
I'm would like to get around 90 - 100.00 for it - but all depends also what the yardman would let it go for. seems like they go to engines 46 - 52. I would need an offer. Looks about 98% rust free, and what rust there is seems minimal - I was suprised.

I know it had an intake, but I think that was pretty rusty -I would have to go back and check. I'm sure you are wanting it to be in satisfactory condition - which you would have to define

It would originaly have had a 'T' filter not an oil bath.
If its a late oil bath its no good but the carb should easy be worth 100 bucks  |

The 26VFIS carb was not only used in combination with "T" air cleaners but also with later air cleaners like the strap one. Remember that the rare "Zyklon" air cleaner was also available for dusty countries at that time (early 50's).
I know its not a car engine (industrial) but I just bought this 1954 motor which came with an Eberspacher manifold (not a K, not a common 25/36hp manifold), the strap over air cleaner and the 26VFIS carb.

Yes, I think Kaefer-Nostalgie is correct, I have seen pic.s of the strap-on-filter with another similar engine, but was not too sure. When I saw this one in the yard, it kind of settled it for me that they have been originally assocaited with each other. Wish it was a T air filter though, - wuld have bought that up right there and then.
When the rains cease, I'll head back out there.
- would be nice at least if the manifold is in good shape. How good does it have to be to still be good.? No holes or paper-thin metal I guess...

When i say late oil bath i am excluding the strap over, if its repairable its desirable  |

- a question.......
did these carbs have a metal float in them as opposed to plastic?
I heard they did - which would be surprising

49barndoor,
Re: t filters............
I think (thought) they are being remaufactured to a very good exact copy. Can't accurately remember the name of the co. something like brezelworks? Someone here should know.
