I picked up my 57 oval T1 as an unfinished project, the body was stripped and painted some 13-15 yrs ago in the cars original colour and then just left after that, never wet sanded and polished.
I now have the car in pieces and have found rusted sections in the heater channels, I can replace the channel bottoms easy enough without disturbing the paintwork but I need to weld in some smaller sections on the upper parts.
Is there a technique I should be researching to keep the paint damage to a minimum?
Here's what I'm dealing with

| If you are seriously looking to replace metal and dont want it to affect the nearby paint. About the only thing you can do is epoxy the panels. That will require flanging them. |
