I just bought a 51 deluxe split! How do you tell if the seats are for my year or not? I was told by a friend he thinks they are 54 seats, but he is not sure as he does not know what type a 51 had. We do know that whatever year they are they were recovered back in the 80`s
Here are 2 links to pictures of my seats!!

Thanks for any help Ben |

here is a pic of a split window seat. they have a curved back. from the pics you have i would say they are not the correct one, but a picture with the door open would help out. |

Ben, definitely look like the zwitter to 55 flat tomb stone seat backs, steering wheel is correct but wrong button is all. Looks as if somebody used a few later parts but thats the easy part. Atleast its a double glover.

Don, those seats are correct for a later 52 zwitter to 55 bug. They are worth a little bit of money so Im sure he wont have any problem selling them. Theres tons of guys needing them. Also, the bottoms are the same, just the seat backs are different so if you can find just some arched seat backs from a early 52 and older car, you can change them out. :D |

| 2splits wrote: They look incorrect to me....so are the doors. :? Yes I know the doors are incorrect!! I was asking about the seats only. The car was used as a trade in to a VW dealership back in 1968 they gave the guy $300 for the car and the owner kept the car, but changed the doors because he liked vent wings better. The car was on display till 2000 when it was sold to a guy in Boston and sat till now when I bought it. He put only 437 miles on the car in that time as this is verified with the DMV. The car is unrestored!!! |

| any split is an awesome split, we were just trying to help out a new split owner so he dosen't make a mistake when restoring such a rare car. to many times i see a split that is restored with all oval parts, thats not the right way to do it. now that we know the history of the situation, he'll be in good hands. you can't take us to seriousley. keep on keepen on. :D |

I guess also that the pointing out on the facts that are not correct usually is because when people see a new name who have not been so active in posting we think it might be a newbie to the VW scene. But this can be so wrong sometimes.... Even if someone isn't that active in any forums they can have the knowledge, and as in Ben's case have been out of the splits VW scene for a while. :D
I think it might be a good idea and look into the mirror once and awhile too. Yes, we all did get some trashing back then when we were newbies too but this doesn't have to trash down everyone that appears to be newcomers here in Splitswille. This is also one big reason why a lot of European pre-53 owners and specialists never want to participate in here.. :(
The Rants & Rave section is for that... |
