Is there anyone out there with nice 52 doors for sale? Also how do you mount the crotch coolers to the body? I cant find any diagrams of the mechanical parts for them or the mountings for the directionals.I wish I had all you Cal guys here to help, but in Wisconsin there are few splits
if any to look at. Thanks, dab |

Hi, dab! I have a vw shop from a dealership that shows in detail how to put a split together step by step. If your interested I can see how much it would cost to have it copyed? Also have a book that came with my car that you can look up any vw serial number and it will tell you what year and month it was made anyone interested in buying? If so will look into getting them copyed. |

Hello, I have a set of original `52 doors. They are very nice. I see some work has been done on inside inner lips at bottom but very minor.
They have perfect mint outter skins with excellent black paint also.
They are pricey but available, if serious you can email me at

| There are 2 styles of crotch coolers, early and later. One with an inner shield and one without. My 52 has the inner shield and there is a couple small screws that hold the flap onto the quarter panel and there is a wire clip that attaches and helps with the open and closing of the flaps. (minus the lever) |

| I have a September '51 car with crotch coolers. It has the shield on the inside and handle, etc. They must have made the other type for only a few months as my April car has no crotch coolers. Let's do the same thing I'm trying with the Bordeaux Red thread. Let's pinpoint the exact changover dates. Whose car has what? |

| JJlux 51 has crotch coolers with no inner shields. Its funny because on my 52, it has the shields but I figure my car being late because it does NOT have the removeable rectagular transmission inspection plate cover in the luggage area. Its shut solid back there like a later car. |

| I believe that would make your car an August or September car. They only did that for a month or so. JJlux51, what month is your car? |

| No I was quite about it because I thought it was hacked because I do have an early oval front clip. I don't see any signs of a repair though. What is your vin # skim? |

| I just looked again and mine has the cut out in the undercarpet padding but not in the metal below? The cut out is rectangular and has a hole in each corner. the padding looks like it has always been there and it is factory light beige underneath. |

Same with mine. Its cut out so as splitdog stated, they used old padding. I wonder how close mine and splitdogs car are related. |

| Mine's a Sept. 5th '51 car, so it has the opening. They'll look the same. Skim, I'll bet yours is a Sept. '52. I'm thinkin' they did that about 4-5 weeks. The opening, not the pad. Very interesting... Look up those numbers. :) |

| really that was the only thing. No inspection hole, shielded crotch coolers, vin tag stamped 1952 so we have the latest of the double glovebox splits. |

I also have a pre-zwitt, late June, early july cc split w/ no trans inspect cover, but square cut matting above, sheilded cc's.
The editor of vw trends (Price) wrote a book that details these changes by very specic dates, a very interresting read for you late split owners. Does not tell too much of early splits however. |

| Ah, yes. Progressive refinements. It says,"Cover and opening in luggage compartment floor above transmission--No longer provided." 1-0365-716 June 23, 1952. |
