Jason - the fuel pump was supplied with the motor from Outfront Motorsports, the regulator is the stock Subaru unit, and the filter is a Bosch unit that is something like 8 microns.

The pump

The filter

Steveowe - thanks for the kind words. I am not sure what it was the bent both shafts, but it was either coil binding (needs compression stops) or when I knocked the lower springs off their perches. I am designing my own compression stops now...

Oh yeah - to answer your other question, the front shocks are single Fox 2.0 coil overs w/ rezzy's. No bypass shocks... Spring rates are 250/350 - both 10" long.

Hey Skid,
What is the torque spec for the beadlock ring?
I know somewhere in this thread you painted the rings, don't remember what page.
Thanks.

(Are there "Cliff Notes" yet? An index at least?:D )

STEVE0WE wrote: Skid, your thread is truely amazing! I have built TWO compete cars since you started this thread and it just keeps trucking along..... GREAT JOB!
...We run a motorcycle boot on our bypass to protect the shaft. split it most of the way up the side so that it can flap around. I will try and find a photo.

Photo from behind.... allows the shaft to move freely.

Front stays clean and protected.

Hey Steveowe!
There are "Dirtbagz" to protect shock shafts. I think you can get them from Kartek, McKenzie's, OffRoadWarehouse, etc...

If I remember correctly, it was around 20 ft/lbs. As far as an index, hell, I can't even get my car put back together, let alone index all the info in this thread!

BTRs are 18-20 ft/lbs for the bead lock rings

So my memory isn't completely gone... :D Thanks Jason!

I am spending this weekend on the baja! First some work on the bump stop design, then off Sunday morning to the Pomona Swap Meet to search for a steering damper and pick up the new spindles from Baja5. Hopefully get to talk to a few online off road friends I usually don't see as well. So far I have been pretty busy...

Friday night I spent some time measuring and sketching out what I wanted the stops to look like. Then I cut out pieces of cardboard to set them in place and refine the dimensions some. I drew the shapes in MasterCam on my computer and emailed them to my work. First I stripped the paint job back in preparation for the bump stops to get welded on...

During work this morning I had my CNC foreman program the parts and we set it up in the mill (who needs laser anyway!!).

This is the plate the urethane pad will bolt to...

Then we set up for the end plate extensions.

Add some triangular gussets, and the base for the stops are in place! I decided that these really need to be strong, so I "let" one of my welders at work burn them on. :D These are all free hand mig welds. He is going to get a free lunch out of me for this! The welds look great...

Now I need to put the front suspension back together to position the bump stop plates and tack them on. Then take it apart again for welding. Then reassemble it to check final position. Then tear it apart to paint it again. Is there a trend going on here?! I am glad I really like hanging out in my garage! 8)

Spending the time in the garage is easy!!! its convincing the wife that the time in the garage is for a worthy cause thats hard!!!

Russ Wolfe Sat Jan 16, 2010 3:38 pm

My wife asks? "Aren't you going out to the shop?"

Skidmark Sat Jan 16, 2010 3:51 pm

Next I lined up the stop plate measuring the compressed shock distance, and tacked them in place.

Add another gusset to each one, and finish weld...

I am 8 hours ahead of my goal for progress today! I guess I have to find something else to do now...

Nicksan Sat Jan 16, 2010 4:58 pm

Damn, that looks good Skid, Can I borrow your welding employee ? LOL

neanders Sat Jan 16, 2010 5:10 pm

That's just sick!! I wish I could weld like that. If you need something else to do, I vote beer.

Skidmark Sat Jan 16, 2010 5:24 pm

Outstanding suggestion! I was just thinking about that before I clean up for the evening. I just painted the beam again (primer and top coat), so might as well go grab some while it's drying... 8)

vdubduner Sat Jan 16, 2010 5:56 pm

tacos and beer would be nicer.

Skidmark Sat Jan 16, 2010 6:11 pm

You just gotta love rattle cans. Primed and painted in an hour. 8)

Skidmark Sat Jan 30, 2010 12:31 am

Late night spy photos from the skunkworks...

The first fit check of the new spindles

A shot of the r&p and tie rods

I am going to come off the front side of the steering bung for the steering stabilizer, and connect it to the beam clamp for the front bumper. The spacing is almost a perfect fit.

I had to remove more material from the link pin heads to get the lower ones to clear the spindle "skirt" (due to the 3" lift). I will get a picture of that during the tear down tomorrow. Time to take the r&p out and drill for the mount.

speaking of rattle cans...what color/brand of blue is that? i like it...

Skidmark Sat Jan 30, 2010 8:30 am

Krylon... "True Blue"

UncleDirty Sat Jan 30, 2010 10:53 am

Looks good Skid. I like that blue, looks like my favorite welders. 8) http://www.millerwelds.com/
Their slogan is the "Power Of Blue". Kinda fits your deal too.
