| I may have a line on an antenna that will work on my split, but I need to find the upper brace that mounts on the dimple. I remember seeing somebody making reproductions of them, but can't remember where I saw it. Anybody know? |

Kinda thought that might be the place. Thanks.
What I'm doing for a radio might well get me banished to split window hell. I plan to get a blank pod plate, cut it for a speaker and radio, then stick in a 60's radio. Should cost me about a quarter of what a split radio will cost. Better yet, it will actually work. Too many people want $1500 for a split radio that looks pretty but is a very expensive paper weight. |

You found one for $1500? |

| Dont worry shane. My split might be getting a home made pod with a huge tach and oil pressure guage... just until I can afford the real deal ( clock) |

| I must have turned down half a dozen radios that look alright but don't work. We have a guy locally who restores tube radios, so that's not an issue. Money is the issue. Everybody thinks their busted, rusted, non working, missing the power pack, pile of scrap is worth a fortune. I strongly disagree. I want sound from a radio, not appearances. That's my issue. The way I figure it, I can get both for under $500 if I do it right. |

I installed a "Navorone" 3"x4" 300w amp in the fender nook in the trunk connected to a XM roady2 in the glove box and/or stuck to the windshield with a suction cup mount. I can just toss it into the glove box and close the door when I want to hide it. I can plug my mp3 player in on the same input and use that when I want. I also have a hidden volume control knob under the dash to control the amp output.
The 6" speakers are hidden in two cardboard tubes which I am going to cover with seat fabric to look like split pillows. When I want to show the car I will just turm them around to show the pillow end.
I don't miss not having am/fm at all. The music selection and lack of commercials is so much nicer on xm.
Of course my split is 12v but the roady2 runs off 6v so I suppose one could get it to work in a 6v split if you could find or convert an amp to run on 6v

Quote: I plan to get a blank pod plate
Please don't hack up an original blank dash pod. They are actually pretty hard to find. I am looking or a black std one if anyone knows of one. The ivory ones are a bit easier to find, but unmolested, more rare than clock or speedo pods.
My Zarwerks partner Jim is casting blank pods, and I think Gary is also. You might onlu go to Split Purgatory of you just hack a repro one.... |

| I'd never hack an OG pod blank. I imagine I'd be shot and pissed on for that....and probably not even in that order. I have seen repro plates, so that's what I plan to do. It should look alright when I'm done. |
