I've learned the type2 site well. If I'm correct that site was done by the same guy who came out with the book. |

The eberspacher itself is missing, but all the ducting and cables are there.
I don't know about the fresh air fans, I'll have to check.
The radio is now a Pioneer unit.
It does have this wierd flying saucer thing near the brake MC... is that the servo? Is that normal for a '70? What does it do?
It's a dormy top westy with full width bed... pretty nice camper. :P
Thanks to all for help with the mystery codes.... they seem to be spot on with the bus. |

Yeah, I think that the servo went in around '70 and front disk brakes in '71. The servo serves (haha) to make braking easier so you don't have to have such a heavy foot. The fans will have a switch on the dash. That dash must be loaded with knobs! Holy Enterprise Batman! How did you come about a Bay? I thought that you stuck to splits? Anyways, Welcome! |

I think there are 6 knobs across the dash.
I guess that's ... (in no particular order) headlights, eberspacher, camper lights, rear window defog, wipers, fans... am I missing any?
It's actually my friend Dave's bus... he doesn't do computers...and he's selling it (see my ads... shameless plug). I like the splitties better, but my first car was a '73 westy with a '77 FI 2l motor.

I hope that you time here in the baywindow forum was a good one. 'Till next time (I'll be back in the splittie forum when I get my deluxes back from another town), cheers.

Hi everyone. I'm a new samba member who's been lurking for a while (I admit, it's become a bit of an obsession). I found this thread fascinating (especially as my husband and I are getting ready to make our "Jeebus" beautiful again). Could you help me understand a few of the codes I'm stumbling over?
62144600
922641 D53 073
22 2 7367 038 2319 61
Here's what I have deciphered so far.
1976 + serial number.
922641 brilliant orange paint upper/lower, then the interior it said westfailia green/red (my interior is orange plaid + green vinyl?)
D53-something about US standards? I assume this is like safety standards, etc?
073-poptop
22 2-22nd week Tuesday
7367-this is a production number mentioned in earlier posts, yes?
038-the type2 thing said "west germany" was the destination?? could this also have been one of the tourists pick ups too?
2319 61--so, this is a code for a kombi cargo door right, LHD and means we have m-codes 157/251 (engine 2.0, FI??) and 609 (campmobile deluxe? we only have a sink, no stove).
So, can anyone check my work and help out with the 038? I'd really love to more about the old guy. Thanks in advance for the help, and I really appreciate this great resource.

038 - destination code for Mannheim - a tourist destination pickup would have a TE or TX destination code.
D53 for 1976 includes: 005, 012, 067, 102
005 -heater outlet in seat box of rear bench seat
012 - exhasut emmission control installation and speedometer in mph instead of km (with M524 only) (M524 means USA and Canada specifications)
067 - 12V 54A battery instead of standard 12V 45A battery
102 - rear window heating
You are correct for 7367.
2319 is correct. The 61 means 2.0L engine (6), and the 1 a manual trans.
The book says M609 is a Westfalia campmobile, without mentioning deluxe |

Thanks so much for the help! I wasn't sure if our back hatch was original or not, but it looks like it must be (with original paint). It has a dealer's sticker from the Car Corner in Heidelberg. I just thought it might have been swapped for the original, but it looks like (given the defrost & destination) that it's original. It being a non-deluxe makes way more sense too. Now I'm totally curious if the defroster works!!
M-codes rock!

I'm pretty sure it's a kombi (231) standard (0) but other than the 8079175 being part of the VIN I'm a little lost (haven't been able to find answers to what the m-codes mean). Help a baywindow noob out :D . I was told it's a '68 Euro. It doesn't have back-up lights for some reason.

Greetings all, just bought my first bus on Sunday from an ad placed here at Samba. I've been lurking on this site for a little while to get a feel for the place and make sure I don't start my time here by asking the same "stupid" question that's been asked to death. Feel like now is a good time to drop in and say hello. This game looks like fun, what's mine tell you?
Thanks, and I look forward to being an active member on this site.
Jonathan

p.s. a helpful tip on posting images would also be helpful, every forum is a little different. Cheers. |
