That particular Bosch eyebrow lens was used from 1945-48. A similiar lenses was used from 1949-52, but it no longer featured the distintive eyebrow. It was made more smooth on the exterior face.
Look closely at the photo, you can see the Hella logo enscribed unto the outer headlight ring. So the owner of that particular headlight has some mismatched parts.

Rare Air,
With the keeness of your eye,it brings me ask the question as to what are the specifics on these HELLA branded H/L rings?
BOSCH are so much more prevelent, anyone with knowledge of the years the Hella rings were used on?

Those particular Hella assemblies shown are for 1943-48 VW Beetles. The adjusting screws are located at the 5 & 7 o'clock positions. Both Hella & Bosch were/are OEM suppliers to VW so either assembly would be correct. But they were never mismatched.
Though both Bosch & Hella look very similiar, only the lens itself is interchangeable. The reflector, and bulb holders are different and the adjusting screws were located in different spots. The Bosch units had the adjusting screws at the 9 & 12 o'clock positions. |

Those are two lenses are different. The top one is very early (1945-48) as it has a raised edge near the top of the lens. It is known as an eyebrow
The lens shown in the lower pic is used from 1949-52. This style of lens no longer has the raised edge. It is smooth. |

Ok.. It's my headlight in the picture.. question is I have 2 other headlight lenses I would love to get dated..
The first lens is a Hella lens. It only has the Hella logo in bottom and a raised eyebrow in the top of lens, no other marks.

Second lens has a thin band in the top not as regular hella and bosch and only a VW logo in bottom of lens.. All headlights has hella rings with Hella stamps in bottom and adjustiongscrew at 5-7

| Henrik- That first lens you posted with the eyebrow is early. I'd date it to be used on cars 1946-48. Most 1945-earlier cars had a KDF logo on the lens, some of these KDF logo's lenses where of course used on some 1946-47 cars as well till supply ran out. |
