Hi ,
I have seen that flat 4 repro Fram oil filter kits are available and am thinking of buying one for my oldspeed 36hp engine. How do you fit these kits to your engine / how did the original Fram kits fit to the okrasa enignes (i assume the flat 4 kits are repro of the original).
I have seen photots of Okrasa enigines but cant figure out where the oil lines are coming from / going to. ? ? ?
My engine is in the machine shop at the moment, so now is the time if I need oilways tapped! |

| Those are a "bypass" type filter. The inlet comes from the oil sneder hole and the return enters the case by replacing one of the generator stand studs with a hollow stud. |

I don't think those Fram kits are repo, but rather NOS. But for those in-the-know, the Orange filter cans were designed for industrial engines. The more correct Fram filter kit for a VW would be painted Blue. |

My kit has a hollowed out stud which replaces the distributor clamp stud. A 36hp didn't have studs to remove the generator
On a side note, when you purchase a kit from Flat 4, it does not come with the necessary stud or banjo bolt to properly fit the kit. Just comes with the hoses, a filter, the canister & the mounting bracket. |

You'll find fitting instructions here:

and all the necessary fittings and Oil Lines here:

| So it looks like you need a tee piece from the oil pressure switch and hollow stud for the distributor clamp. But these are not included in the Flat 4 kits - right? So where did you get them RareAir? - I see that the full kit including lines can be bought form Mr Wob - Judson site. |

You'll find Stephane Lhonneux's Oil Lines on our site and his own site include all the fittings you need. |

The Flat-4 kits don't have the necessary fitting because those kits are designed for industrial engines. The industrial engines already come equipped with the needed parts. You'll need to source the hollow stud & T fitting from another source such as where John moxon suggested. If you were to purchase the correct Fram oil filter kit designed for the VW (part #111 018 571) then it would have all the necessary fittings.
A side note- I've seen some enthusiasts drill & tap an oil return line directly into the cast generator stand on 25-36hp cases. |

Glenn is correct........The orange filters were for tractors. Every time I see one of those on a VW, I get ill. The Fram filter for VWs is really rare. The filter is blue and black with VW decals. A Porsche 356 filter would be more correct. |

Wow you must have a weak stomach "53 Oval".
As far as I can find they weren't specifically made for tractors or industrial engines but simply for use with an internal combustion engine.
The instructions even have advice to the Motorist and the guide for the F3P is that it's "for use on gasoline engines up to 175 cubic inches displacement".
True the VW version would be perfect but where and at what price? I bought mine on Ebay 4 years ago for $32...good value for a NOS filter.
What they do provide is a reasonably effective filter to suppliment the stock VW one, which by all accounts was just about effective enough to filter out the odd nut and bolt.
The fact that it wasn't specifically made for the VW, isn't the right colour or doesn't have any German writing on it doesn't bother me and it appears doesn't bother a lot of other people who buy them. |

| I was under the impression that the Fram kits lower the oil pressure, but many seem to be able to run with them. Comments? |

Well yes and no...yes I have one fitted and I have pictures too but no it doesn't really show the area you want as the picture was taken when the cooler had been fitted and the engine back in place.
PM me and I'll send you what I have. |

The top picture is ghia so the filter is off to the side but it's a good shot of the mounting bracket itself.

Surely there must be a source for the hollow stud and the weird little fitting at the oil pressure switch. I bought a NOS blue F3P2 Fram filter for our 67 Westy, but I want to mount it off to the right, on the side of the wheel well where the voltage regulator used to be (can't go on the left--gas heater in the way). For that reason I will have my lines made locally at a hydraulic equipment servicing place.
Nobody knows of a place to get these strange little fittings? |

Stephane is the shit, he will even make the lines how ever long you need them. He will not sell the fittings only, you have to buy the hole kit. Pricey but well worth it. |

| As Stephane AKA MR WOB appears to have returned to type, taking money and not delivering the goods. Does anyone know an alternative source for the oil lines and fitting kit for a fram filter for 71 ish engine, hollow bolt entering the generator/alternator stand. :?: |
