I would like to know if anyone knows how the type 4 heating system works.Their is a picture in the gallery that I put up.I took this picture from under a 412 and the junk yard.I have a type 4 in my type 3 and have type 4 exhaust manifolds.Trying to figure out how to hook up the hoses and still have the functioning flaps to turn the heat on and off.

How big are your heater boxes??

The reason I ask: 90% of the type4's [411/412] used BA-4 gas heaters and therefore did not use full size heater boxes like on 72-74 buses.

The mini-heater boxes were just preheaters for the BA-4 heater.

I just went and took a pic of the two different heater boxes. The lower one is the 411/412 mini box. Thr upper one is 72-74 bus. I used both lefts for an example, rights are the same as the lefts, just opposite.

As you can see, in reality they are shell covered J pipes. I can take another pic showing the difference inside if anyone wants to see.

I put the complete VW heater book here:
http://failsure.net/oacdp/ebersp.html

After you click on the link, scroll down.
The type 4 section starts at Full Index and click Type 4.

1st page, 005, shows a pic of the system. I cannot post the pic here. It is a .png and not allowed.
