So as some of you know I was in a very serious accident. I just got some more x-rays done yesterday and i though I would put them up here for everyones enjoyment.
I also wanted to re-say the main reason that I broke my back is because I only had lap belts in my manx. So please if you only have lap belts go and buy some shoulder belts and install them as soon as you can. It's a very worth while investment. If I could go back I would gladly spent the money to do it right the first time. |

Ouch. Get better soon.
My friends truck only has lap belts in it. He gives me a hard time because I wont wear it. I figure it does just about as little good as not wearing it.
Harnesses for everyone!! |

Follow your own wisdom(the title of this thread) and throw those harnesses you got in the trash. Harnesses have a life span. 2 years and they should be tossed. This is like the helmet thread. Helmets should be tossed if they take an impact. Is your life worth the $60 each for good gear? If you are looking to save a few bucks...the Y shaped harnesses are going away. They are being banned because people dont tighten them. When they arent tightened properly they are hard to get out of. If used right they work fine. As a result they can be had for cheap $$.
Just looking at those xrays makes my neck hurt. I had a wreck racing in 91. No where near that level. My neck still feels stiff alot. I feel for ya.
On the bright side...When I look at that xray all I can think of is the x-ray in the Jackass Movie with the little car  |

| as soon as I passably can I'm going to get a good set of 5 point harnesses. If I had my way everyone would have 5 points in there car and now how to use them properly. The shoulder belts I have came with my bug but as soon as I have the money I'm installing my cage, new seats, and a good harness. I guess I'm saying I agree with ya jowls. You really can't put a price on your health. Well i guess you sort of can and in my case you can and it's around 100k. |

| 5 points may be over kill and the crotch straps are a pain in the ass. The 4 pointers will keep you in your seat in a roll over. |

But not if you hit something square on.
The crotch strap is a vital part of any harness system.
Without it you could shoot out from under your belts. |

OK, I'm sufficiently motivated due to this thread - thanks for sharing and scaring.
My question is: Is it worth trying to rig up some beefy seat mounts with backing plates under the floor plan - then rigging up strong high-back seats that allows for four point harnesses to be passed through?
Or would I have to go full on roll cage to overcome the dangers of my current low back seats and lap belts? |

| When it comes to safety the more the better, Full cage and high back seats with 4 or 5 point harness that would be the way to go. |

| Plates for mounting anything thru the floor pans are a good idea. If you mean putting mounts for the shoulder harnesses down that low....it's not accepted..except if you have steel frame seats. Even then I would be leary. A roll cage...if even a simple 6 point would provide some safety in your car...and a good place to mount the shoulders... |

| My 65 does not have a 3 point - only the lap belt. Is there a 3 point conversion kit available? |

| my brother just went and got some 3 point belts. His 69 already had the holes for the top mount and he just drilled a small hole for the pin on the spring mechanism. If you don't know what I mean you'll understand when you see the belts. |

Hey, Turbo, ask DrA where he'd be without even a lap belt!
I ran an F250 into a concrete post at 45mph a few years ago (black ice). I got a small bruise from the wheel, my wife walked away unhurt. Scrapped the truck. Lap belts are a *hell* of a lot better than nothing. |
