i was thinking, if you bought non-directional rear tires and have negative camber could you flip the tires around when one side gets worn?

and call it good i know lowering the rear is way easy but the front is a different case and i dont understand any help would be appreciated

BOOMER

I remove the material from the center where the adjuster will be located
This does require you to have to remove the mounts that bolt your beam to the framehead

take your time measure everything over and over ,most importantly : DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU AR NOT A CERTIFIED/VERY EXPIERIENCED WELDER think saftey

I use straps as as well as "L" channel with hose clamps to hold everything tight, works great

finished(you can paint yours nicer,mines a driver :) )

I had problems finding pictures of what 2 notches looked like on a late model......

This is what 2 notches looks like on the rear of a 74

Got the front end done. I narrowed it 5 inches. I kept the shock towers. I had to narrow the inside of the upper shock towers and trim/fold below the gas tank support frame

I got my front end almost done flip....just a little different approach than yours

umm...so let me get this straight  a 4inch narrow is 2inches narrowed on both sides? (not to be stupid) an with a 4inch narrow, are body modifications needed or any modifications needed? Also do i need drop spindles with the adjustable beam or can the stock spindles be used? an also how hard is it to switch out the beams, if you never did this before?
An also does the narrowing do anything to the turning radius or handling of the car?

lets see....yes 2"s on each side
no body mods with 4" can still run shock towers if you wish
no you dont need 'em but highly recomended(spindles)\
not hard if you are mechanically inclined and take your time
turning radius thats the whole reason you narrow,so you can still turn
this was my first ,now i've done it three times....

why are the drop spindles highly recomended? stock spindles go on them the same right?

Your trailing arms swing in an arc. Once you lower the car to the point that the arms go past horizontal.....the tires get pulled forward. Too far and you get into clearance problems with the headlights.

Also you can over travel the balljoints and get binding.

With spindles, you get low and still have reasonable trailing arm angles.

IMO its worth the $150 to get spindles. ....and for $150 more you cane switch to disc brakes. ($305 for lowered spindles&disc brakes from Serrano's)

The way you lowered you bug, how is the ride now? Is it to bumpy? Is it just a little bit close to stock ride? I wonder pal?

I am based in the Philippines. Visit as at www.vwcp.org

Thanks,

Your bug is very cool. Essentially a Cal-Looker.

COOL!!!

I have some issues with rubbing in the front.

My plan is to tub out the inner fenders (to get rid of the hump).

I'm a newbie and I've been searching through the forums trying to educate myself on lowering my '73 std. I understand how to lower the rear, but I'm a little confused on the front. Please understand that my car as it sits right now is extremely accessible to any part because the body is off and most of the suspension is off as well (hopefully this will simplify the process).
I've heard that the front can also be lowered my turning the torsion bars. I only want to go 1 to 2 inches lower in the front. I am a newbie at VW's, so I sort of don't know what I'm talking about. Can I turn the nuts in the middle of the beam or what do I do. Or is what I heard, false. Do I have to go with a lowered spindle? I've already got a disc brake conversion which came with new stock height spindles, I'd hate to have to order lowered ones and still be stuck with with new stocks and the old stock ones that I took off.
I also would like to have it where I could return the ride to stock height easily in order to possibly sell it better in the future.
Any and all suggestions would be helpful. I do apologize if this topic has already been addressed. I searched for a few hours, but never found anything to answer my questions.
I would appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks.

just get a set of adjusters and weld or have them welded in ,if that's as low as you wanna go

Im wondering what you guys are running up front for tires. Glenn, i know your running 195/50's but what about the others? Im only going to get drop spindles for front, an beef up the drum brakes (sleeper) So what size tires could I run w/o having a huge bulging gap looking at you? Rear I'll be running 215/65's if that matters, an I want a smaller lower profile for front. I read 135's an 145's work but stopping sucks with them.

ummm I guess this fits in this topic, since it has to do with lowering

Stock Ghia spindles and a beam with AVIS adjusters.
