Please post descriptions, pictures and parts needed to lower a Ball Joint beam.
There will be a similar topic for Link Pin beams in the Beetle forum, so Ball Joint only here.
Please keep this technical and no BS’ing.
So looking at this very nice post and wondering if I could do it myself, how long would a procedure like intstalling the front adjusters and lowering the back take a average person with good to average equipment to do evertything needed?
Also if I use the AVIS adjusters I have no need for dropped spindals correct? and what is the advantage of dropped spindals over adjusters? |

| when lowering the rear on my 73 standard, i don't have to take the torsion bar off or losen it? Do I have to have a measuring device to check the angle or do I just go by notches? |

An IRS is easiest to use an angle finder... From the OG angle each outer spline is usually about 10 degrees.
After lowering quite a few cars, you can do either Swing or IRS just by how it looks and you can feel the splines in an IRS once you do it 10 or so times!! |

| I'm trying to lower the rear end on my 70 beetle. I took out the bolts for the cover plate and disconnected the other bolts for the rear arms. I can't figure out how to turn the spline, are there pictures anywhere showing this process being done? |

One thing I have found out with 2.0 L porsche repos with drop spindles.... they rub the lower trailing arm.I have the body off the car right now so I can not tell how it will be with the full weight on the front end but with the pan raised of the floor the rims hit... Might have to go to a narrowed front end after using spacers.....I might not have an issue except when I am drag racing and I pick the front end up.
Anyone out there have any similar situations....any other solutions? |

A 2 inch narrow is the biggest waste of time and money EVER. The only good a two incher will do is if you want to just use spindles and keep a semi stock look... a 2 inch WILL NOT tuck at all.
The least I would go is 4... and that is the bare minimum |

This is a 4" narrowed beam, with dropped spindles/disc brake kit, and 145 tires. Just right for cal-look.

cool. ok basicly i put my new beam on the beetle but. i canot get the trailing arms to slot onto the new leaf springs?
1. the old trailing arms had the grub screw on the top on the pasanger side and then on the bottom on the driver side.
2. the new leafs have them both on the bottom.
3. the new leafs have in total of 6 metal rods *4 of them bieng smaller ones wich make up one hole one, yet my old on hed and extra small one wich made it kindov like a triangle.
any ideas or tips wood be much apreciated as my lovli car is just sitting behind my house on axel stands and i gues it wil be until i get it sorted or sum1 decised 2 toe it away!
thankyou

Sounds like you have Link Pin torsions... The earlier style torsions
You will pretty much HAVE to get some BJ torsions and make new ones! |
