Hello, I was wondering how you lower by moving your spindles by moving the one spline. How can i take them of because from what i under stand there are spring it the tubes that apply pressure on them. Also i heard by doing it the wrong way the mechanism will come flying of and apart. Thank you for all that answer.

I have a set of lowered struts for a 79 Vert. My problem comes with the insert. My stock strut Assembly uses a securing nut with an internal thread (like a nut.) The lowered assembly needs a nut with an external thread (like a bolt.) I called Topline (great guy by the way) and he told me to use 79 Rabbit inserts. My trouble is that the new inserts still have the wrong nut. Did I order something incorrectly? The numbers match what was told to me from Topline. I ordered Sachs inserts (Boge now I guess)

Anyone got any ideas? I really don't want to bother this guy at Topline again when I am purchasing the cartridges locally.

No I don't sorry. It is basically the nut that secures the cartridge in the strut. The one you usually have to cut off or grab with a pipe wrench.

no it a kit i did myself i had to make my own control arms and notch the pan to get it to sit that low and in the rear i did a firstone bag and made my own brackets

I just bought the up to 5" drop struts from topline. I have 135r15s on 8 spokes. From what I heard, my tires will rub with the full drop. Can I put 145/65/15's on my 8 spokes? if so, will it rub? or should i just buy the 145/65/15's and put them on my stocks?

No 3 in that video sequence takes 6 minutes to describe a 2 minute process - I got tired just watching it.

The simple math is - to lower the rear, rotate the spring plate UP one spline on the inner and then back DOWN one spline on the outer and you adjust the angle of the spring plate UP by 0.8 degrees and this will drop the ride height of the car about 1/2 inch. It's as simple as that.

Or if the rear end is saggy and you want to raise it back to normal, rotate the spring plate on the inner spline DOWN one spline and the outer UP one spline and the rear of the car will rise by about 1/2 inch. So if you need a one inch lift, do the rotation process twice on each torsion bar.

The swing axle bugs have only one spring plate and the IRS suspension bugs have twin spring plates. The process is exactly the same for both.

He mentioned a stock angle of 16.5 degrees for the type3 car he was using in the example. For the bug the stock angle is around 21 degrees.

And almost everyone talks about levering the spring plate off the stop plate and having it crash down loose or (in the video) on to a jack. What a load of unnecessary worry. Just use the jack to actually lift the spring plate just clear of the stop lip, then lever it out 1/2 inch and lower the jack - the spring plate stays under perfect control for the whole process, no broken fingers or legs. Too easy.

The whole process is described on my site at

hey, do you recall how many coils you cut off?

On our project 73, we will be doing a tutorial on lowering the front and rear. We will do both a picture step by step and a You tube video on it. more to come soon.

how can I lower the front of my 71 vert 7"? I all ready slamed the rear 6 1/2" (i dont care about ride quality)also ow do you "roll" your fenders?

SuperStylin Sun Mar 23, 2008 11:15 pm

I put the nose down today at the full 5" drop. Sadly, I think its to low. With just myself in the car, it seems fine. With someone else, I grind my sway bar brackets. Think a 1/2" raise will do? or should I do 1"?

Or, when I lower the back, do you think it will help any?

Cut your coils. I do not know if anyone will give you reliable info for that one though. Change tire size and go with adjustable coil overs
