I bought a 67 bus on Samba last week, pearl white on top, blue bottom, roof rack at a good price. Some of you might remember the ad from last Monday or Tuesday. I flew out to Boise on Friday and the bus was prepared for a 1900 mile trip to Indiana by the seller. He hadn't taken the bus cross-country before but he prepared like he was going with the bus and told me he had bought some things for me to take along..... A fan belt, 2 qts of spare oil, socket kit, screwdrivers, a chilton manual to go along with my Idiot bood, a funnel and spare jumper cables with a case to put them in....Plus he added a first aid kit and a flare set. Some of the things I was going to buy once I arrived by plane, he had already bought and had them in the bus plus more.
So after stopping by the local vdub shop (can I say the store name?) I took off through the heat of the day from Idaho headed to Indiana. Cruising at 55-60 I heard nothing but a smooth running SP1600cc. I drove it easy but at the same time I was putting in some long road hours and only resting at rest areas along the way. Periodically Id stop to rest the bus and myself, checking with my hand, the heat on the outside of the bus, engine door, oil cap and dip stick. All through the trip it remained cool to my touch and very little oil was added. As I pulled into the the drive, 46 hours (total time) and 1,853 miles, this road warrior (67 bus) cruised in with class.
Along the way people honked, waved and one was even taking video as it passed me while at the same time yelling "What year is it?" Another story, as I came from the restroom of a rest area, a lady was taking a picture of the bus, saying they had just donated theirs to the local junk yard (sad story).
Just wanted to relay a happy ending story dealing with buying a bus on Samba, sight unseen besides the one picture on the ad and having people know that there are some people out there that are honest, love their buses and will take care of them to its destination, even after its sold.
Thanks Samba and Andrew |

Man, that was some awesome seller.
You really lucked out.
What he did for you was worth several hundred dollars of time and parts. |

Very kool IU- it's always great to hear that some people DO actually make an effort when they are the seller, instead of just sit there while you try to push the thing on the trailer (as the seller of my panel did...almost bitch-slapped him). Where in Indiana are you? I'm located in Indy-

| awesome, It's wonderful to finally hear a good story. I know what you mean about "what year is it?". I have plate frames and the D plate with '67 on it and people still ask. But I'll save that for another topic. |

| Paul..I live SW of Bloomington in a town named Bloomfield. I have come to terms that it is ok to have more than one bus, so I am keeping the 63 and 67. Do go to any shows? I was in Karst Park a few weeks ago. |

| IU - I know where ur @. I didn't go to that show, but I did take the entire family to the Central Ohio show last weekend. (it was a joy...LOL). I do try to make it to a few- but most pretty much are a waste of travel time. I did go to the Circle City show in Brownsburg last year...small but nice for the first year. I am slowly attempting to get my 60 going- it is going slow due to family and work, etc. Do you have any pics of your purchase? |

The plate on my bus says "67 DLUX". People will be looking at that and still ask "what year is it?" |

| Looks like an honest and concerned seller. One of the first good bus buying/fly in drive home stories I have ever heard, most turn into horror stories |
