There is a website out there somewhere that rates automotive shippers. I suggest you try to find it, as I've heard shipping cars has quite a few pitfalls for the inexperienced. Search for previous posts in the General/Chat forums, I believe it has been covered in there.

Shipping often come with sticker shock, but paying for shipping is often cheaper than paying for motel 6 along the way plus food, gas, and God forbid, breakdowns in an unfamiliar vehicle. Consider all the risks in assessing the actual costs.

I shipped two bay buses in 2005. They are obvioulsy a lot bigger than a 411/412. In one instance, I used DAS. They are to auto shipping what McDonald's is to fast food. You will find their link on e-bay motors under shipping. They are not always the cheapest, but they are pretty consistent and claim to move your vehicle on their trucks with their drivers and not by "brokering" the shipment out to an independent. Although I had a delay in gettng my bus from the N. Mexico to Ohio, in the end they were pretty responsible.

In another instance, I used a company out of E. Tenn. (Arrow Auto Transporters) (arrowautotrans.com 1-877-602-7769) who did broker the job to an independent. Their service was just as good as DAS. I used them because they were right where the bus was. (Knoxville area). It was easy for them to get someone to pick it up and run it up here. My price was helped by the fact they had something up here to bring back.

They guy who runs Arrow is a guy named Ron. You can deal with him or a girl named Heather directly. They were honest, fair and straightforward. They work nationwide.

If your vehicle is not a $15,000 show piece, you can trust an independent. A lot of times it's simply a question of where do you need it to go? Can you wait until they have something where you are at to bring back? Does it run? (Non-runing cars cost more to move). Sometimes terminal to terminal shipping is cheaper rather than door to door. Can you handle that?

This time of year is probably a better time to ship, than lets say the spring. (Not a lot of college kids or business transfers moving cars back and forth right now). This is what slowed down my order with DAS.

If I had to do it again, I would call some independent brokers and tell them what I had in mind. Tell them there is no hurry. They will likely find a trucker willing to pick it up and bring it back, rather than come back with an empty rig. It helps to be in or near a big city or trucking route both ways. You'll have to pay extra if its up in the mountains somewhere. Good luck. It's not a bad experience and it's cheaper than breaking down in an unfamiliar vehicle.
