| I am working on a trike I recently aquired. The motor is a 1972 type 4, with auto stick tranny. My question is, can the cooling tin be left off? I like the look of a bare motor, and the tin detracts from that. I am new to the VW world. Can any one shed some light on this? |

?? What do you think the tin is for, looks?
Yeah, sure, you can leave it off.. about once.
The fins are not oriented in a way (nor is it likely they will pick up enough air) that running it without the tin is going to direct enough cooling air over the engine to keep it cool.. Especially at lower speeds, even if the fins WERE oriented in a way favorable to open cooling. |
