A few months ago I bought this car from a seller near Nashville (he only owned it for a month or two). I towed it back down to the MS gulf coast. Where I used to live, Gulfport, MS, I was surrounded by water and you need to leave the neighborhood by using one of two bridges. Well, to my bewilderment, my car survived Katrina and now resides with me in Memphis.

Before leaving the coast I ran into a guy that mentioned to me that he saw my car in a national magazine. He doesn't recall what magazine or what year, etc.

What I'd like for you guys to do is to see if any of you recall seeing my car in any magazine. If you can scan the article, please let me know. I'd like to read up on the history (if any) on this car. Even better would be some info on the guy that did all the work and who built the motor.

I don`t know anything about who built it but... he lived around here. I`m in Fresno, Ca. It`s been at least ten years since I saw it last. He used to take it to the shows here in Madera.

During the late 80s, VW Trends magazine had a design-a-paint scheme contest. That paint job on your car was one of the finalists, but not the overall winner.

So, my car does have some history. Looks like I'll be keeping the airbrushed logo on the sides after all.

I still can't find much info on my car. Is there a online resource that will allow me to thumb through old issues of VW Trends? Has anyone got some back issues they could look through and maybe scan the article or pictures of my car? Any suggestions from any of you guys?

I really don't want to call it quits on looking for more info but I'm hoping you guys will help me out.

Still no luck on finding more info on my 61. I just wanted to bump this post to the first page in attempt to see if more people have seen this one before.
