| I tried to edit a post a few minutes ago and got a message that I was not allowed to edit a post after it had been posted for 15 minutes. I've never noticed this before. Is this a new feature? If so, I hate it! I wrote a how-to post I'd like to revise, but now I can't! |

Yes, I turned that on recently because there have been a couple cases where people went back and deleted the content of ALL of their posts because they had decided to "quit the site". Of course they came back after 1-2 days.
This destroyed the readability of dozens of threads.
Your situation did not occur to me.
I'm open to feedback if this will cause other problems.
Moderators can still edit posts in the sections they are assigned to moderate.
I made it 30 minutes, 15 seems too short. If you think a longer time is more suitable while still keeping this feature intact, I'm open to it. |

A couple of things come to mind:
1. Don't apply the rule to any of the technical forums. I have a feeling that the threads you mentioned were in the rants and raves section.
2. Don't apply the rule to Premium members - they are not likely to "quit the site".
3. Change the interval to a day (or similar). 15 minutes is waaay too short. I'd hate to clutter up a thread with additional posts when a revision was all that's needed. |

1. None of the instances I am thinking of had to do with the Rants.
2. One was a premium member, although I think you are generally right.
3. I made it 1500 minutes (a little over 1 day).
I will think about it some more today.
If it's something old, you always send me the new text and I can paste it in. I think this will be few and far between. |

Hmmm...Perhaps you could restrict members with less than a certain number of posts? Would that have helped the situation? |

You should still be able to delete if it's the last post, same as always.
Editing is set to be 1 day now so that should cover all spelling errors you want to fix. |
