I don't really have a problem with aggressive drivers. There are a few assholes who want to run 20mph over the speed limit and get mad that I won't, but that's about it.
Then again, I hang pretty well with traffic. My Bug runs good and I'm not concerned with gas mileage. I generally go 5-10mph over (where it's safe) and on the interstate I stick to the right.
I did have to hobble my car home once at <25mph with the hazards on for about 20 miles. Throttle cable broke. My fix only allowed me about 1/4 throttle when at the floor. Got me home, but the drivers behind me were pissed. Lots of horns and fingers shown when they passed me or when I moved to the shoulder to let them pass.
That's understandable, though ... I suppose.
It's not road rage, more road-asshole ... some guy threw a rock at my car (on purpose - he was sitting in the bed of a truck traveling the opposite way) and cracked my windshield.
Then again, when I see my friends on the road, we give an obligatory middle finger salute to each other. |

if i'm not dipping below the minimum speed limit, i sure as hell am not going to run my engine hot just so i can appease the idiot behind me.
if he wants to meet at a stop light, well thats when a good old softball bat comes in handy. |

They were going in an opposite direction. I thought the guy in the driver seat was waving/about to wave, so I waved back. Turned out to be some signal to the guy in the bed of the truck and he threw a rock.
It started as a small "chip" ... and it slow grew. Thankfully a) it's not in my line of sight, b) I don't have inspection, and c) it stopped growing after about 4-5 inches.
And as much faith as I have in my car, I don't think I could have stopped from 65mph, turned around, and chased him down to get his #. |

i agree about dumb drivers. i get the thumbs up all the time in town and highway, but also the frequent large vehicle pulling out in front of me. and that really made me angry when my brakes had to be pumped 4-5 times before i even slowed down. now that i got a new master cylinder its not as bad, but still annoying. as far as passing on the freeway, its usually me passing. i have the 1835 in my 69 baja with a 3rib bus tranny and 31 tires, so i top out at 75ish before my car shakes beyond controll. that makes me laugh when they try to pass me and i keep up with everyone untill i hit a hill and such. but i also am getting out of that speed freak stage as id like my first vw to last a while.
one time after playing at the local mud hole, i bent the tie rod pretty bad and also messed up my steering column/high beam switch because every little bump i hit flashed my high beams. i fixed tie rod that night, but it took me almost a week before i figured to readjust my steering column. boy everyone sure got out of my way when i keep flashing them. im sure it dosent help that i also have crooked head lights so i kinda blind oncomming traffic, but ive tried to adjust headlights and figure i just need different front fenders. |

i'm sorry but that was pretty funny lol
it was funny, and original about 15 years ago when I first had someone use it on the internet... it's very unoriginal now... I left the peed and bob alone, but it could be tempting to stoop to ground level and run with it, if i were that lame.....
haha, i'm sure u had heard it before, it just struck me funny when i read it. i guess i was laughing at a lot of strange things yesterday. |

thought of this topic today after a Porche Cayenne threw a rock and cracked my windshield. like I needed a reason to hate those rebadged Touregs any more than I already do. if you have the money for a Porche buy a 911!
we're leaving for Florida on Wednesday so Safelight is going to have to do the job while I'm at work Monday. |

Expanding on our brake issues. We have a set of three tracks close to my house by a gas station I frequent. I had just stopped by a friend's place and we did my alignment. On my way back, just getting into the turning lane to turn onto the street with these sets of tracks a corvette guns it to get in front of me in the turn lane and almost clips my front fender. Whatever, no big deal didn't hit me, and he'll be gone in a second anyways. So we both turn and he speeds up quickly as I expected he would. I'm not far behind him. He speeds all the way up to the first set of track and SLAMS on his brakes at the last second....these tracks are not bad at all, but as stated, my brakes sure are. There is no oncomming traffic for the next 2 sets of tracks so when I feel my brakes as being somewhat inadequate, I go ahead and pass him. Apparently he didn't like this.....likely his whole midle aged crysis and the money he spent on his sports car flashed before his eyes and he found himself in something of a rage.
So, he guns it and passes me, then slams on his brakes, putting me in the same position one again. I come inches from rear ending him and hear "your ass is mine" which I think is a rather homosexual thing for a man to yell at another man....but okay. He charges my car and I calmly ask what the issue is....he keeps coming and demands I get out of my car......mind you, there is a school bus at this time several yards up the street letting out some young children.
So I ask him if he is that ignorant. if you really wants to fight me in front of a school bus full of children. Told him he made me sick and he was standing in a bad place as I cut my wheel to the right and threw the car in reverse. I insisted he man up and get back in his car and started to let off the clutch. He stormed back to his car cursing under his breathe about how if he ever saw me again yadda yadda yadda.
You try to spare the back of someone's car and that is the thanks you get... Some people's children... |

I had an incident one day where my throttle cable broke across an intersection from a parts store. I got it running but had to go uphill with no gas and the throttle on fast idle choke. The person saw that I had problems and still kept honking his horn. A person that I had met before was helping me to get it rolling enough to stop playing with the clutch and idle across the intersection. The jerk then followed me into the parts store parking lot and started with the mouth. I am not a very tall person, but I am well built. I had my teenage daughter with me in the car. I got out of the car I took off my jacket and walked very calmly over to him. He then shut the window and took off. I don't understand why he took off. Oh yea, my daughter gets a kick out of showing her friends that they can't touch their fingers while wrapping their hands around my arms. I wasn't going to do anything except ask him to not use that kind of language in front of my daughter. One day, one of these idiots will find someone they can't handle and they lose their courage. They have a lot of courage when they can take off fast.
For the most part though, I have to allow extra time to get gas and stop anywhere because people always want to talk with me about how they had one of these cars......
I get more waves from people in the bug than in any other car I have owned. I also have plenty of help if I break down. A lot of people will stop and help me. |

tried to spare the back of his car? why would you knowingly drive down the road in a car with brakes you know are inadequate? Serious question. |

Drum brakes versus performance corvette disks? I dunno dude, i'd say my car wouldnt stop any better than his o_O More over, i'm pretty sure i can stop faster than a corvette with my 30 year old street bike. Weight, brake area, contact patch, some things stop faster than others. |

I took the statement to mean he had issues... my appologies if that's not what he meant

P.S., if it were a bet, I'd likely put my money on the corvette stopping faster than your 30 year old streetbike any day... they stop as fast or faster(late model corvettes) than many supersport and race rep bikes...(lots to do with the brake area, contact patchES and weight, as you said.).. Relatively speaking motorcycles don't stop as quickly as most folks(and many riders) think they do. |

| I think the worst drivers are in Florida. I can prove it too. Yeah, we got all of the old people who should have given up their license last decade. Then there are the uninsured illegals without a license. But, I have held a FL driver's license since 16 years old, with my permit at age 15. I have NEVER taken a driving test. I am in my 30's now. I have driven in 40 states and 4 countries outside of the US. Florida drivers are the worst!! I would tell you what an awesome driver I am, but you probably wouldn't believe me :P |

If you drive less than 70 in the right lane, people will tail gate with less than a car length between. SUV driving bozos are the worst.
When I had a sun roof, if they were close enough I used to flip pennies on their hood and windshield - it would scare the crap out of them
Golf balls out the window would be a site! I havent done such but sure HAVE wanted to a few times.
A-holes are everywhere people exist although some do seem to concentrate in more areas than others. Most of the time people seem to appreciate and respect the classics but I live in area that is mostly older more respectful people and yes plenty of rednecks. They may crack jokes but I dont care because I am the owner of a 58 and a 59 classic beetle and they will always be behind the wheel of a depreciating POS. |

Gotcha, i reread it, seems like he did have brake problems. Still dickish of someone to brake check you just to be mean.
PS Mmmmm, i dunno, i'd take that bet if i had a stiffer front end :P |
