I've never had issues with other drivers but I do most of my Beetle driving on secondary roads and usually am ahead of traffic.
Never had any issues on my old Harley either. Hmmm.. I wonder why?

It's too slow to go on surface streets with it? |

The Harley? It's got plenty of power, about 1/2 of what the Beetle has with a lot less weight. I don't go too fast with it since the brakes are pretty feeble. |

carbureted or EFI, it doesn't matter.... tune your car. |

I was but it's only a replica. No real Thompsons allowed in New York. Damn! |

| In stop and go traffic, if I have a tailgater that likes to almost park the front bumper on my decklid when we are stopped, I like to do a little "fogging exercise" with the gas pedal. Cough cough... funny how they stay back after that. |

| I always get waves being the only early model beetle in my city, even short trips (2 miles to the gas station). A lot of people I'm following (at a safe distance).. stupid volkswagen brakes like to give me a run too for some reason. I get a lot of thumbs up when they are surprised my 2180 can keep up with them. hmmm I should just start passing them maybe I can get the finger. |

no matter how fast i am driving and what type of road.....I always get some ass clown who thinks that since im in an old beetle, I need to be passed.
This morning on my way to work some chick in a Ford Fiesta rode my ass, half in the other lane thinking she would maybe pass. I recently swapped my old 1600 for a 1776 and decided to speed up and created some distance between us. This was a bumpy, country road I was on so I limited my speed to about 65 mph. eventually we came up to a traffic light. I stopped at the red light. When she caught up, she veered off into the left turn lane..but not before she ran up on my ass again, nearly clipping me...as if to say "See!! your are slow and in my way!!! You almost made me hit you!"
I come across this crap nearly every day on my commute.
Most the time I'll glance over to see what the ass clown driver looks like and I most the time I get a glare back like I just ran over their cat or something....
It can be very frustrating. |

what is it with people doing that?
they're the ones i love to play with
let them get just level playing on the slow old vw thing then nail it and leave em behind
you wouldnt beleive how fast i've pushed people who are determined they're gonna get passed
really pisses them off
especially all these midlife chrisis knob heads in their BMWs and Mercs |

This is really not so much of a disrespect thing....More of an observation.
Last night, as well as a number of other times, I was driving on the freeway at about 7:30 in the evening. I was doing about 65 mph. Maybe it is pure coincidence, but I noticed that I was the only car in my space for about 50 yards in front of me and 50 yards to my rear for quite a distance. It is like every other driver was afraid to get to close or in letting me get to close. It is at these instances that I start looking for flames in the my rear view mirror! Am I about to explode and everyone knows this except me? Is my tire coming off? Is there a pair of legs sticking out from under the back of my beetle? Do I smell bad?! Maybe it is the scream of my engine that hurts their ears.
hehe it is weird |

It goes both ways for me. Some days no one seems to bother me and I can just cruise at my own pace. Other days people think our stock drum brakes are just as good and responsive as all the newer cars so they think we will slow down in an instant.
Mississippi drivers are HORRIBLE and about 60% of them are too poor/cheap to even have insurance so if you get in a wreck, chances are your screwed. |

| I noticed some of this when I drove my Beetle on the Interstate for the first time two weeks ago. I was following my friend in his '75 Westy in my Super, and we were doing about 65 in a 55 zone. People would fly up behind me, and then go by at about 85 MPH, just to pass the "slow" drivers in the Beetle and Bus. The funny thing is, I've driven that road before in my GTI. Normally I do 75ish through there, and everyone else drives about 60 or 65. It was amusing though  |

| In 2010 no one puts pride into their vehicles anymore so therefore pride is taken off the road as well. A 16 year old jackass that just cut me off and missed by an inch in his dads 2011 SUV has no idea what he has just done. |

Not if you're carrying uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage! |
