for the most part around norther centrol oklahoma you get the thumb upers, wavers and the horn tooters and the joy of watching someone else get slug bugged in ever car that gose by.. the one that gets me the most is all of the little kids at the school when i pick up my kids they all point and want to look at it and then when the school bus passes you and every kid on the bus gets slug bugged... no other car can cause us so much joy and someone else so much pain

When I joined the Marine Corps I took my first taste of what kind of idiots are really out there on the road. In the Motor City (greater Detroit area), people seem to realize that faster traffic stays to the left, and slow to the right. I have had no troubles with people tailgating in Michigan compared to SoCal. People on west cost just dont pay attention when they drive. Bottom line. This in no way means that I dont love Cali though.

nictator wrote: Ya guys, I love messin around with tailgaters and all too. What i love to do: When you see a "fast looking car" come up from behind wanting to pass you up and get in front of you, slow down a bit so he catches up and start slowly acclerating. So then as he's trying to pass you in the lane to your side you speed up and get in front of him. Sucka!

Question: Who gives a friendly toot to passing Volkswagens?

If you see a black bug with a roof rack cruizin around san jose who give you a friendly honk...ya thats me

you got a pic of your car bro?

57ragbug Thu Jan 05, 2006 4:55 pm

i hate it the most when people pull out like right in front of u b/c there like oh its a bug its slow.... man my bug will cook all there buicks

Bugorsh Thu Jan 05, 2006 5:11 pm

How about pulling out of a parking lot in front of an oncoming car. They see the bug and step on it and when you go anyway they panic and slam the brakes, but by the time they hit the brakes, I have already passed the guy I pulled out behind so they look up and??? where'd the bug go???

57ragbug Thu Jan 05, 2006 5:45 pm

nice.... my bug will be able to do that soon.... or when they pull out like 20 feet in front of u and just slowly get in it like they think just cause its a bug its slow... my friend preston owns these streets hes got a 2225 cc or something close to that with a turbo and he kills all the ricers

A closing thought, in most cases around here, people are cool when on the surface streets. They ask me about my car, say nice things, and some even offer to buy it. But on the freeway, Jeckel & Hyde!!
As someone else said, when they pass, they have to earn it.

Thanks for all of your posts. I was venting my frustration over selfish and inconsiderate drivers. 8)

I always thought it would be cool if someone made small stickers of rice rockets. So when you smoke them, you put a sticker of their car on your driver door...like the pilots do!

i know i get a few stares when im in my beetle, but if someone has some place to go they don't care whats on the road around them. thats why most of the time i just drive around town in 35 mph zones. but what i'm interested in is what do you guys think of people in the new beetles. i know i get looks from them and most of them wave, but for some reason i just have this mean streak that cuts right through me and i think to myself, they don't deserve to have me wave at them. they're a bunch of sell outs that probably don't have a clue about air cooled vws. just cause you got the new body and take it to the dealership to get it fixed doesn't mean we're related. am i a jerk? why do i loathe these people? how do you guys feel about these new beetle owners?

greatlord Thu Jan 05, 2006 10:35 pm

I'll say the odd thing I get her in CT is it seems the oposite of cali; on the highway most folks are laid back and will wave as they blast past if they wanna go faster; in town though its murderous, and god forbid you take it gentle on your clutch if your first in line at a traffic light.

of course I am working to stop this problem, every time someone honks I put on the flashers set the brake and go ask them whats wrong

KillerTux Thu Jan 05, 2006 11:13 pm

I thought at first most new beetle owners didn't know a thing about older air-cooled beetles but I was wrong. The new beetle owners I run into are older people who once owned a bug when they were younger. They just bought the new beetle to bring back some memories. I can generalize that the rest of the new beetle owners are people who thought the beetle looks "cute". Not knocking that because "cute" works. "Cute" brought Apple computer back in the game in the late '90's with their iMac. Same thing with Volkswagen, the New Beetle brought some life into the company. It brought back a classic with a clone :)

LOL...most new beetle owners here are 16 year old girls....they look at a classic type 1 sedan and say "WHAT KIND OF CAR IS THAT?"....

Really? Here in Fairfield county, CT people are very aggressive, especially during commuting hours.

tommy-lebug Fri Jan 06, 2006 8:10 am

well, you got to know that new beetles owners havent had decades to build up a loyaity for their cars, plus we are driving an automtive icon, the best and most cars producted in history. not even the model T ford beat it.

mikegoode Fri Jan 06, 2006 9:24 pm

Anyone who has purchased a New Beetle because they want to bring back memories of a real Beetle they used to have is dreaming. A new Beetle is nothing like a Real Beetle. Most people who own them are girls or middle aged men or women. New Beetles suck and they should come from the factory with bubbles that come out of the exhaust as it goes down the road. If you want to rekindle old memories buy a restored Beetle and do it right.

As for rude drivers disrespecting Beetles, the average joe could care less if you drive a Beetle, a Honda, whatever. Rude drivers are just that, no matter what. I will say that the average driver in Chicago, bad as they may be, has far more brain power than the average driver here in Arizona. WHY does it seem like every other person has a Ford Super Duty with a lift kit and gigantic wheels, an even louder exhaust that it already came with, a super bright lights that they switch on full power, IN THE CITY. I do not know if there are a lot of farmers or people who own race cars or boats or have a need to haul bricks around often (why else would one own such a rediculous machine?) or what. But it seems like the folks that own these 9mpg farm wagons are also the ones who like to put the aforementioned fog lights on full power and ride everyone's bumper (even if that person is doing 80 in the slow lane and the center and left lanes are wide open) and weave in and out of traffic. If I see another one of these drivers in one of these pick em ups I am going to be sick.

mikegoode Fri Jan 06, 2006 9:28 pm

And as for the New Bug breathing new life into VW, I do agree that it did do that. Unfortuanately, VWs recent product (boorrring) and serious complaints about quality and horrible dealer service have taken that new life and then some out of VW in the US

tommy-lebug Fri Jan 06, 2006 9:30 pm

Ya , those people are WANTA BE"S nothing else...

tommy-lebug Fri Jan 06, 2006 9:35 pm

i have a licence plate frame that says "NO NEED FOR SPEED".....

bugnut68 Fri Jan 06, 2006 11:03 pm

I have found that no matter what I am driving there are assholes regardless. Doesn't matter what kind of car it is, as I was driving my dad and stepmom's V-6 Accord during the Christmas weekend...75 on the interstate, 80 at times, to pass, and I was still getting passed by dualie pick ups and other sedans. Everyone's in a hurry, but I could care less.

I opt to drive 55 to 60 in my Bug due to the fact that I've seen what happens to Beetles in high speed colliisions. People who have their cars set up with discs and cages and five points are a mite safer than a stock one, but fact is in a serious wreck a Bug opens up like a tin can and guess what happens to the driver and passengers... I accept the fact that drivivng a VW is a slower way of life.
