Sorry if this is posted somewhere in an obscure archive on this site, but I was too lazy to look.
I'm about to refill the original tranny in my May of '53 type 1 and I was wanting to know how much fluid the thing takes. Can anyone tell me? Can anyone also recommend a type of fluid that will work best? This tranny I speak of is an original tranny, un-rebuilt and has about 70,000 miles on it. |

hi
it holds about 2 1/2 qt's. just keep filling till it won't take no more and spills out of the fill hole. 80w 90 is fine. i like semi- synthetic or full synthetic.makes them shift like butter! :D even when cold. if your trans is worn and noisy you can step it up to 80w-140.
