I wouldn't have bought it, but who cares if the buyer is happy and the seller is happy? Silly comparison. I wouldn't pay $2000 for those dropped single cabs, but that doesn't mean squat to someone who drools at the site of a dropped cab and thinks $10ks a bargain. But you can't dispute which is the rarer of the two buses and which will stand out more, and rarity is one of the biggest equations in determining value along with demand.

Better comparison?
For around 4K more you get a nice shiny, running driving, braking bus. It's one year older and its' a DD as well. you are comparing apples (logo'd buses) to oranges (non-logo'd buses). the whole point of the appeal of that bus is the original logos. if it didn't have the logos, then it would be worth half as much as it is with the logos.
try to find other logo'd doubledoor and/or pressed bumper panels to compare it to, then compare the condition of the buses and the strength of the subject of the logos.

"$300 bus rack, roof rack in good condition", call 1-900-cut-legs
Looks like the seller forgot to mention one small detail about this rack that will pose a slight problem when trying to mount it.
At least he reduced the price $100 when he cut the legs off:

Sure looks like the same rack to me.

a large part of the reason why the whole "ASK" phenomenon exists is because of this thread. a lesser reason is because it is part of one individuals marketing techniques that sells VWs for a living.
which came first? "ASK" or "the whines"? |

Rule of thumb- If it says "ASK" , it is going to be overpriced.
I am looking for antother Bus, but will not even bother with the ASK ads. |

Placing an ad with "ASK" in the price column has been going on long before the samba, or the whines thread, ever existed. It has been a technique for years.
Glad to be on page 666. |

If you want to know why an ad says Ask then you should Ask.
Oh wait, that makes too much sense.
I'm assuming they will tell you though. |

The new wave from my woods is putting an ad for a car that says (no kidding) $ OBO. That's it, no price, just the thoughtful Idontno State Or- Best-Offer after the dollar sign. These guys run 120-day, reserve private auctions on their cars. How do you know the private auction's ended? They buy a new sign to replace the faded one and again write OBO on it.
Once, though 10 years ago. I was the last to visit a garage sale that advertised in the paper a '63 sunroof bug (sorry, not a bus this time). I was there at about 4 PM on a Saturday- and the bug was still there. The owner had a sign on it that said "Ask". Nobody did- cause this car was clean. I was the first- and got a one-owner, one repaint daily driven car for $675.00. I didn't dicker. Never have I repeated that luck. brad |

| the problem with vehicles that are for sale for "Best Offer" is that any offer that is made, the owner will use it against the next person that comes along. my theory is that those cars don't usually sell. |

| best offer is like an auction, except the owner isnt forced to sell the item at the end of a given amount of time...he/she can keep saying "oh well so and so offered XX, can you do better? on and on, until all the potential buyers are pissed off at the seller. |

"best offer" really means squat. How would a potential buyer ever really know what that is, or has been so far?... you can't. As stated above, no "b/o" listings are anything but an auction, with an un-stated reserve (already set by the seller). Its not that hard to figure out what your item is worth (to you at least), and ask that, or more, and see where it goes. Doesn't sell?... drop (or raise  ) the price and see what happens. The ads that say "b/o over $$$" are no better, as you can never verify the tendered offers above the base, like in a "real"* auction on e fatchick.
* even then shill bids/scams abound.
To me, "ask" or "b/o" says why should I bother?. My.02 |

Well lucky for me I have a sweet logo on the side of my DC. And it's not the usual 'diaper service', 'tv', 'janitorial', 'drink' logos. It's for wooden boats. Maybe I'll get lucky and some rich dude that has a wooden boat will grace me by paying $10K for my logo only? One can only dream.

| If the "ask" priced buses are mostly way over priced, how come they ALL sell? A lot of them sell right away, to people all over the US and the world. Do the people who buy "ask" price buses, don't know any better..... or do they actually know more than the people who complain about them? I thought the bus bubble burst? :? |

Ev: on the "Place an Ad" page, maybe you should have an "Ask!" checkbox...
(not complaining about the bus, just commenting on the 'price!')
I like that bus. How much? (I'm "ask"ing)
$23,000
I asked. |
