Hi Everyone,
I am in negotiations with a seller of a Vanagon that was once totalled. (per CarFax and per owner's admission). The van checks out quite nicely with a reputable mechanic.

Question: If I am looking to eventually sell this van again 3-5 years down the line, will I have enormous difficulty selling it b/c of this "stain" on the carfax/history? Or will buyers be able to look past this and see the quality of the van? In this market, how important is a clean carfax report?

Thanks,
Bob

Hello Bob, welcome.

Great question but you posted in the wrong section (split bus)

...and you don't even get the wheels  ...there was a 61 23 window on here a couple days ago for less.

You want this Bus to have a title.
It was just sitting outside for years behind a shop so without a title, how do you know everything is on the up & up?

VIN

That VIN # is the 1963 model year.

I put VIN 1051005 into https://www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud_awareness/vincheck/vincheck

and it is not listed in the insurance database records as being stolen or totaled. I think that is the list the port checked, found the Spokane bus there, and there's a big thread on that recovery.

I would love to know for a fact if this is true. I am trying to get our state's laws changed regarding vehicles without titles and would need to have that as a resource.

I know this isn't an official bus accessory, but the ad says it was found in a 67 bus, so here goes. This is worth exactly $25.00 I have had several. The last one I sold was absolutely perfect, and I sold it for $50.00. And they are not even close to rare.

I don't know much about that those table but that one looks like trash.

Yes, I have seen near perfect used ones for $50-$75 at shows.

I think my brother got one NOS in box for $50 or so.

I've gotten upwards of $200 for some cherry ones, but I've also seen them go in real good shape for $50 and $75. It depends how badly the person buying it wants it, and how much the person selling thinks it's worth.
But I would agree this particular one is on the high side.

At least he factored in the buyers fee. Always hate that add on when I buy!

In the last photo, the shot of the engine bay while the bus is on the hoist. IS that the shop ceiling I see? WTF is going on there?

I wonder if those are shots of a donor lower section/frame? in the other shots the lower 1/2 of the post beside the decklid is a different color and the heater tubes are insulated, don't bellypan buses have no wrap?

Belly pan buses have the heater wrap, but it needs to be installed before the belly pans go in place.

Actually, I think it is the ceiling. If you look closely at the picture of the rear interior, you can see the seam welding along the sheet metal. Looks like the rear metal over the engine/gas tank has been grafted in and the picture from underneath was taken before the new metal was installed.
