Let's take a D/A sander to random parts of the bus and call it 'patina'

Worse - it's all airbrushed on over the Bondo, sealer and paint. It's on his Facebook page.

can you post a link to it please.

Here's a couple of the "Patina Style" buses, the PGSG included.

That looks like such a fake - lame monkey attempt its not even funny. If you are going to spend the time and effort to fake it, at least try to do it right

The person that did the sorry attempt paint job could of learned volumes of information from watching a couple of "paint your WW2 Model" on youtube.

What a bunch of idiots for what looks like an otherwise nice interiored bus - Brazilian or not.

Wish I still had the 86 syncro that I bought for $250, Traded in at the local buick dealership and they didn't want to deal with it. I would be all over it!

I did not trade, but sold my syncro camper to rebuild a 67 split deluxe.
I would have much rather traded for the 61 15window.

This bus posting on eBay just ended. Take a look at the bid history. It was a $15,000 bus and that seemed reasonable. Then it looks like the owner of the bus made shill accounts to boost up the price all the way to $30,000. That is just shitty practice.

The amount of VIN switching that happened back in the day is crazy. I wonder if this is across the board with cars...

I've now been close to buying 3 pretty cool optioned bus' that turned out to have bad numbers.

never bought a car on eBay, hows that work then? the "winner" just backs out? and no funds change hands? so the owner doesn't like the price he's getting, pads the bids to see if he gets "lucky"? would think eBay would catch on,don't they get a cut?

How'd you know? Do you do detective work here on The Samba?

1 recent one was up front with the cut out switch during the inital Phonecall (early bus)

1 only told me once I drove miles to check it out and I looked in it (double door)

1 Guy I had the vin magically disappear between the deposit and the pick up (13 window) -THIS one was my first attempt at buying a split and was the best.

For what it's worth, the ones I've seen were not very clean in any way. I'm noexpert. I'm sure others have seen more than me.

Yes, sometimes the winner just never pays and never contacts the seller at all.

Sometimes the seller doesn't like where things are headed so he has his friends or uses another account to run it up.

eBay car auctions are a fixed fee so no percentage.
I don't know if eBay will catch on automatically, I don't think they have the personnel or technology to catch everything.

This recently listed one is another example: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1768657

From the ad: "Tennessee title in hand.
VIN plates and title says it's a 1960 Kombi Dove Blue Bus but it is a 1958."

Seller is upfront and honest, but it's still a bus with switched VINs.

Yes I wanted to be honest about it. I bought the bus from a guy who has a large VW yard. Some asshole stole the original plates while setting in his yard. They cut the VIN plates out of the bus. I was able to locate matching plates that were clear from a crushed 1960 Dove Blue Kombi. At least the color and model matched.

Lol I was hoping my bus would hit the good deal page and not this one. :?

You are entering very murky water when you openly admit in a public forum of committing a FEDERAL crime as well as a boatload of state crimes by switching VIN's.

Your situation was unfortunate. Your intentions seem pure. Heck, everybody here will probably give you the benefit of the doubt that the car wasn't stolen.

Doesn't matter.

Most states have procedures in place to replace altered/missing VIN numbers..... Assuming you can provide EVIDENCE and DOCUMENTATION of why the numbers were altered and/or missing. Plus proof of actual ownership.

You should probably go that route in order to make the car "legit" again..... IMO

More of a warning to potential buyers. Check this bus out in person!!!

It's ultra rough.... typical South American treatment.

It was hit really hard in the front. Check out the short dash.
