Crukab... you're spending too much time in the Vanagon :P
I'll break it down for you.

Verbatim from the ad:
"1958 crows foot crow feet bus THREE rims wheels Price: 450

Sold other two previously. Came off a 58 bus. Looks like 1-58. I have three available here! 25$ to ship each...per rim...$450+ship"

$450/3 = $150 ea.
$25 ship ea.

for a min I was actually hoping it was real so someone could get a good bus at a decent price but I too realize if it's too good to be true.....

this one seems to good to be true also?

That seems reasonable. I hope it's real.

As for this:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1932380

This is ridiculous. A rusty passenger seat for $550? His definition of rust and mine are quite different. It clearly shows rust all over the frame. Surface rust yes, but still rusty with little to no fabric left...

Not sure there but it is removed now just in case.

A bunch of people emailed and there was a phone # too so anyone who contacted him - let me know what happens...

The Jerome Jamboree bus from last year is for sale on Craigslist, man it's sweet looking.

Malokin Martin Fri May 27, 2016 11:05 am

I wonder why they wouldn't list it on here?

From the ad: "Final sales transaction must be in person."

I agree w/ you - I'd certainly put it on here even if a local sale is desired. People will certainly travel for a vehicle they really want, though the seller is certainly limiting his sale potential w/ the in-person requirement.

Pure and utter guilt.

I couldn't sleep at night if I won a car and simply had to flip it in the same market as the people who donated tons of time and money toward it. The raffle generates a terrific amount of charitable contributions- how about a little charity with the flip? I'd donate a generous portion of the proceeds- at least 25% of it's selling value. And people who know me know exactly that's how I do things.

I think you're correct. Flipping it for higher than market value, it would be hard to post it for all to see, especially when you won it in a raffle

And yet it still found its way home to the whine thread

So if you needed 35k for something & had something to sell.... you'd attempt to sell it a some level of discount (say 10k), so you could honor some entity... then go out & try to scrounge up 10k? Gimme a break. Totally laughable. The owner can do whatever he wants and for whatever reason.

Reminds me of Crofty and not liking his hamburgers. Basically go F-yourself if you don't like how someone decides the way they like their thing.
Read it here, it's worth it.

Guilt.... maybe out of respect. What do you really know anyway? Nothing, besides what it says in the CL ad. If you want to judge/control what happens to every raffle bus... go buy every raffle ticket. As they say... put your money where your mouth is.

I'm overdue to eat dinner.
My wife bought me two shirts recently...
1) "I'm sorry for what I said when I was hungry"
2) only makes sense if in the 80's you used to watch The Incredible Hulk.... "You wouldn't like me when I'm Hangry"

I can relate with this! Nobody wants to be around me if I miss a meal.
On the subject of raffle cars...how many are actually kept by the winner? Everybody I know that's won a car sells it shortly after the paperwork is transferred. I think it's respectable that he kept and enjoyed the bus for a year? I don't know anybody that donates proceeds from a vehicle...that's funny shit right there! I sell a car to fund the next one...it's been a vicious 30 year process to get where I'm at with my vehicles...

This seems like a good idea.

If it were me I wouldn't set a price.
I'd eBay it with no reserve and let the market decide.
You can't legitimately bitch about a selling price when it's an open auction.

You never know how much money someone has put into a Bus after winning it or buying it.
I remember a few years ago some people were bitching about a guy selling a Bus he had just bought like 3 months earlier for way more. It turned out he had spent an insane amount of time and money during those months making it 10x better, even though it looked the same from the outside.

Would it make anyone feel better to know the guy spent $10,000 on raffle tickets? Or $20,000? Maybe he already made his charitable donation and is now just cashing out.

Red Fau Veh Fri May 27, 2016 10:40 pm

Looks like about 20 bucks worth of tickets in his hand, just saying.
I have been told that in the early days of the event, you were almost guaranteed to win a bus if you bought a few hundred bucks worth, now it might take 5 grand worth to be close to guaranteed. It might look like a big bunch of people trying to win a free bus but, if someone with a lot of money wanted to donate something to charity and also wants a bus, they should get over to the next Jerome Jamboree and plop down the dough.
