What on earth is this guy thinking? http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1952464
My goodness, I don't see more than 400 dollars in usable parts there. Can someone turn that back into a usable bus?

Red you have to get out more. If the rack is real then that's 800 to $1000 right there. This guys build and disaster are well documented Samba neighborhood stories

considering you can buy a near perfect repro in chrome for $7.95.

Or zinc-plated at the hardware store for $2

Good Luck finding those at your local Hardware Store. My local ACE has Metric wingnuts but not these.

They're $3.99 at my local ACE

Now THAT is what I call a hardware store! You lucky bas.......person, you!

You too can have safari seals that look like a loaded diaper...
but at least they follow the good mantra.... safari seals nor thighs should touch in the middle :D

That's not the first set of those I've seen, I'm starting to think it's a window unit that mounts using the exixting seal lip like some of the Brazilian cargo slider windows, safari's with no drilling or welding. Aside from the look they may be not bad, I wonder if they leak?

BulletBus Mon Jul 25, 2016 10:40 am

I don't care if they are guaranteed not to leak. They look like ass. Wiper disengagers? Who needs em? Bed gates? Well, I guess things are just different in Brazil.

Malokin Martin Mon Jul 25, 2016 10:43 am

They'd better not leak. Jesus those are ugly.

There was a thread on these awhile back. I can't remember what the final consensus was.

I emailed the seller of this piece-

To me it looks like a bug convertible wing window. But, he says it came in a bus frame. I looked at some glass that I have and they appear different. Mostly, the angle at the upper rear. Anyway, see what you think.

Roof worth 1000.00, seats worth who knows these days? I see $100 bills all over this as a parts bus. I'd love to cut it up

I know all about the bus and the accident, and the fact this sled guy has a hard on for me.

I guess I'm still not following you. You state $400 earlier, but now you agree 5k in parts- but only as a seller not a buyer?. It is not being sold with the stipulation it be reconstructed. It should clearly be in the good deals thread. That thing is a deluxe- restorer's parts bus dream deal.

Red Fau Veh Mon Jul 25, 2016 7:13 pm

I know its worth more than 400 dollars, that was a knee jerk reaction from the shock of seeing it for sale as a whole bus. It just doesn't sit right with me to see it for sale here as whole bus. It's just shocking to see it for sale and the seller knows it because he starts off by telling people the driver is ok and on his feet. So maybe it is a dream deal to someone, but I don't like it. Your opinion may differ, that's your prerogative.

I don't know if he had full coverage insurance on it but if he did, he got a payout of what it's estimated worth and insurance likes to use nada value and you have the option to buy it back for the same value at 25 cents on the dollar. so if insurance paid back at low retail of $10,700 he would have had to buy it back for the price of $2,650 or so. If they paid out more at the average retail he would have hat to pay more than it he is selling it for. so I'm guessing they lowballed him at the $10,700 and he's recouping some by selling it at $4900 or so. it's sad but that's the way it is. I looked at it in the pics and contemplated fixing or parting. If I had some of the parts I sold for cheap the last few years I would be buying it to fix.

LJay Tue Jul 26, 2016 2:16 am

Why can't sellers just put a price on things!!? So fed up with adverts an me thinking can afford this or am I going to insult the guy

Everyone has a price in mind and it must save a lot of messing around plus if it's ridiculous we can moan about it in here...

The current seller is not the same person as the guy who crashed it, and collected on the insurance. The bus has already changed hands.

Exactly ^^^.
Red Fau- The seller is likely well-aware of the thread about the accident- and did not want to taint the possible sale by folks wondering if the driver died in it. When people die in cars- they are often harder to sell.
