What is the difference between a split reserve handle and a oval reserve handle. I've looked in my Sept. '50 and my late '57 Spare Parts books and they have different part numbers. I know that were used with different gas tanks and gas valves. Can I use a oval era reserve handle in my split? If anyone has "split" one for sale, PM me. I would much rather buy the correct handle.

On all my splits they are larger than the ovals. Never tried a oval one on a split. It should would work but you would have to use a later fuel valve for proper fit.

Not sure about the reserve lever being larger, but if the ZAR tag is located above the center tunnel on the pan, then the lever is the same as used till 1961. The early cars with the ZAR tag located to the Right side under dash have a longer lever to compensate for the placement of the petcock on the fuel tank.
Steve- Maybe you're looking at the part number for a Pre '49 Beetle reserve lever?
