I bought a set of brake shoes for my split, they were supposed to be the correct shoes, but they seem to be to thick, I can't get my drums back on. As far as I can tell I have the brakes recessed as far as they will go, but the shoes seem to be 1/16th of an inch to much for the drum to go back on. if I were to get them on the hub would not move as things stand. The thickness of the brake lining is 1/4". Seems rather thick.
Thanks
Gary
Oh ya while I am at it.......What size of bolts are needed to bolt on the backing plates for the front and rear.
So close yet so far..... |

Gary, are you talking about the diameter or arc size of the shoes or the width/thinckness of the shoe's braking surface (its depth)? I'm not clear on that. Also is this a stock set up with stock backing plaes, drums and all?
The bolts you need on the front backing plates also need to have holes in the head so that you can safty wire them once tightened. I just did my brakes, but I'm not sure what size the bolts are... |

Ya the brake system is a stock set up with the drums being NOS, and the Brakes being correct. I found that I can take them to the brake Mnaufacturing place here in town and have the brakes and drums turned to match, and that should take care of everything.
Thanks

Hi Gary,
Sounds like the friction material on the brake shoes is extra thick for worn out brake drums. So to make the NOS drums work the brake place might bore them out to worn out diameter!! |
