I want to know if the bore on a 53-57 single cell brake master cylinder is the same size as a 53 and down master cylinder? Basically, I want to know if I can rebuild my split style master cylinder (has the aluminum resevior on top, not under the hood) using the internals from a later oval master cylinder?
I have already have rebuilt mine once using a kit from Rebies Auto parts, but I don't think it fit quite right or something.I am hoping it will be a better fit using the later oval style MS. I'm 100% sure I reassembled the MS correctly, but while bleeding the brakes it failed and pumped fluid into the car and onto the floor   I definatley felt something give away in the MS before this happened. I'm in the process of pulling it out and disassembling it right now... |

I called WilfsburgWest and no is the answer to my question just in case anyone every queries the forum for the same question.
I went ahead and ordered a bus single cell Master Cylinder so that I can safely have the brakes working correctly and keep the top mount resevior. I was told however to go with the $28 Brazilian MS over the $120 German MS because they have had a few fail and "German Hydraulics Suck". Is this true? I took his word for it but it seems contrary to everything I know=
German>Brazilian

The original size and style of MS is still available from ATE.
It's 19mm MS With a plastic reservor on top of it. Not the bus ones... but 356 porsche ones.
Here are the ATE codes :
03.3119-0211.3 / 010258
Will be safer and maybe end up at the same price than rebuilting yours.
Regards.

Hey, Thanks Alex. Those numbers will help and indeed it will be piece of mind to have a new one. I'll check it out.
