I am curious if any of you VERY Vintage VW folks have had your cars restored through professionals..? The reason I ask is because I am curious as to how you found the shops you sent the work to AND more importantly- how far you were willing to transport the vehicle to get it there. I am one of those vintage shops looking to close down here in the Pac NW and head off to the midwest where I can afford to buy a home. I figure I can still bring in work ie- specialized and high dollar work- on vintage VWs. Am I wrong and any advice? (it's appreciated!!)
I am planning on working full time in a hotrod shop and doing one to two VWs per year on the side. I now am doing a Schwimm and have a 23 coming on its heels- I am ready to drop out of the small biz game and get back to it as a hobby... My work is magazine shown and award winning. Not trying to brag, just posting necessary credentials. 8) |

Ryan,
i would think for the most part people would like to be near their vehical being restored so at least they can see the progress being made.
with that being said shops with a name that has been around for awhile Westcoast classics do not seem to have any problems with out of town work being brought to them.
best of luck if you take the plunge Ryan

| Once some of your work is publish in a national magazine & the name of your business is printed, then yes I'm sure you'll get some work. Main thing is to build a repoire with the auto community in which you will be specializing in. |
