thanks Glenn, I just bought a set of running board trims that were in the Hot VW's Rarest of the Rare issue a few years back and want to get my running boards looking good! I'll check with BBT.

Just look over the run you may buy at the hardware store, there are alot of variations of this material, its made in both vinyl or rubber, and both materials are subject to alot of defects between the ribs on the ribs etc., so look carefully at what you are buying locally. One of the reasons why I wouldn't source this material is that close to 6 suppliers couldn't produce a defect free material.

McMaster-Carr has the V shaped rubber that is very similar to the right stuff. Haven't found the other type yet.

Asmount hardware in Norton Ma had the real rubber mate that was perfect. I did not see any imperfections in the 20 foot roll I bought.I also lined it up with some Og mate and the v spacing and height were the same.
Was $8 per foot 48" wide I think $32 would make 6 to 8 pairs give or take.
Nice thing about the 48" it's right size for Barndoors and early Westfalias as they also used this Mat.

What type of glue/adhesive is used to hold the thick rubber matting to the running board? I am aware that it also is held on by the trim clips or screws, but what about glue?

I used contact cement and it worked perfectly.
