I just wanted to say thanks to everyone involved in building my new project. Dan www.dansperformanceparts.com did a great job of getting all of the pieced together for the car~ After a short 20 hour drive to southern California, I was able to pick up the car, load everything, hit the Extreme Sand Sports Expo, and make it back to Texas by 1pm on Sunday.

Dan, the car was as nice as I expected. Thanks for the great work!

I should have the new pan put together and welded up this week. As I get things together I will post a photo or two.

Hey Steve, It was nice talking to you at the show. Hopfully the build goes well and make sure you take lots of pictures. I ordered your seats from PRP after you left, so it shouldn't take to long. I will let you know when there ready, and you let me know if we're shipping them or not. Give me a call if you need anything else. Thanks Scott

what size limiting straps did you guys run? I need to order some.

dansparts Wed May 24, 2006 5:28 pm

Steve; I have 28" straps in the rear on my car but it's set up a little different then Scott's. I'll check with Steve tomorrow to get the size he put in Scott's car.

Here is a couple of PICS of whats going on. I finally got the CNC rear brakes to fit. I will be buidling the roof rack and light bar this weekend and will post a couple of photos next week. I welded in the pans and then used LORDS Adhesive to finish them. Strong as a weld, completely seals and is paintable. Great stuff!

STEVE0WE Wed May 31, 2006 5:39 pm

Its going to be in the prostock class. Chromo. chassis / bigwig interior / mendeola trani. Just got the motor/trani back today. I plan on running with all the www.TXPRA.com guys. We are working on both projects at the same time so we ALWAYS have something to do. I have to get one of them out of the shop and to the house so we can start on the class 5/1600!!! Im sure i will be asking a bunch of questions when it comes to that.

I should have the rest of the tin work next week and will post a photo every now and then.

takotruckin Wed May 31, 2006 6:00 pm

if that Lords adhesive is anything like the panel bonding glue we use at work, it aint never gonna let go. i got some of that stuff on my arm today, it'll be there for at least 2 weeks

dansparts Wed May 31, 2006 6:01 pm

Steve, It's looking great! =D> When do you have time to work for your lunch money? I wish I had half of your energy, then I could all my projects done(wishful thinking)

STEVE0WE Fri Jun 09, 2006 5:05 am

just a quick update. Sent the Prostock back to Austin,TX. www.bigwigracecars.com to finally get the last of the tin work finished so I have a complete week to work on the Manx.

The goal is to get the seats mounted, fuel tank mounted, and steering finished. I have the luggage rack and light bar mocked up, and should have that finished in a couple of days as long as I dont get suckered into "dinner" for fathers day! I would rather work on the car and hang with the family. Cheaper and more fun that waiting in line for food that was rushed because of the croud!

WHO is the CLASS 5 expert around here?> Thats the next project I am starting on and I have a few questions????

bajaherbie Fri Jun 09, 2006 5:23 am

steve. who is your dad that drove top fuelers?

STEVE0WE Fri Jun 09, 2006 6:16 am

He has been wrenching for about 30 years now. Never drove fuel. I drove our alcohol car for a while, I think the last time he drove was late 70's.

His name is Doug Tyo.

The last few years he has been working on fuel funny cars, Racegirl(jack wyatt),Prestone(bob gilbetson), and paul smith racing.

He worked for alot of years for walt austin when they ran full time also.

Wow, looks like we are going to have a small fleet of Manx on the road. Would that be a Manx, or Manxes????

Quick update... fuel tank is mounted, seats mounted, and I am waiting for wheels and tires.

If anyone wants to run CNC brakes on the rear, This would be the easy way.... Order your brakes, pull the attachment ring out of the box, send it to (Dan?) and see if they can weld it in when they build the arms. The bolt pattern is the same and it jigs exactly the same! I had to do a little trimming on the piece that comes on the current arm. Having a mill in-house makes that a little easier, but for most people it could be a litle bit of a challenge.

I have not started on the front brakes yet. They are going to be a little more work, but I will post the results as I finish them.

I did the front seat brackets as a bolt on unit to the tunnel so that I can have the entire chassis powder coated. Looking in some of the earlier pictures it looked like they got welded in. I put a spacer plate inside the tunnel, and used grade 8 bolts, should be fine?????

We need to get one of these cars running so we can get some video online!!!!!

How do you guys think the trani is going to hold up, How tall of a tire can we run without hitting glass, and killing trani's? 31 max, or a little taller?

A build 091 trans should be fine for motors up the 250HP to 275HP, I'm running 31" tires but Scott and Steve are running 33" in the rear without hitting the fiberglass.

All the others brakes beside CNC ( Jamar, Kartek, Racetrim, ProX, etc) will work on the set up that there with Wilwood 4 piston rears micro stub axle and Wilwood 2 piston front for combo spindle.
