| Just stopped working. Mileage is there and lights for mileage working, but not counting and Speedometer does not work. Any ideas? |

| I owned a 1996 Jetta for a few months and mine developed the same problem I had a 4 cyl. 5 speed. The sensor for the speedo with a manual trans is on top of the tranny I think the auto is as well but I am not sure. I uncliped the sensor and then unscrewed the clamp that holds the sensor, theres a gizmo there that rotates around I cant recall the proper name for it. I cleaned mine up then dropped some oil on the moving parts to get it lubricated, spun it around numerous times by hand, dried it up put everything back together and never had a problem with it again. Hope this might help. |

| If it was the next morning check for some wire damage. Some animals realy like those wires for some reason. :D |

| Paul, I checked the tranny for the sensor, but with an automatic like mine is, it is not in the same place. Appreciate the reply and ideas... thanks again.. anyone know where the sensor is for the speedometer? or where the wiring is at in the engine compartment? |
