Can someone clarify what is the process to get an ownership on a vehicle if it has no history in the DMV or MTO? I am looking to buy a spit, but there is no record of the vehicle in the system! How do I get the vehicle in my name?
Please let me know! |

In Sask., all you needed was a bill of sale. If it had never been in the system, then you needed to also get an inspection, and pay provincial tax on it.
If you could prove that it was at one point registered in province, you could get around the inspection and tax (old receipts with an old license plate number are enough). |

| I was going to try getting a "used vehicle package" find out what the last owner was, but that won't work as there is no history on the car. I got a motorbike the same way, it has no record in the system. I paid no taxes but they put it in my name. Would it be the same thing with the bus? |

OK, I did more investigation on this.... Word of warning, don't all the MTO.. I just spent an hour on hold!
Anyways... You need to contact the police and have them fill out a form to prove that the car was not stolen. After that, I need to contact someone at the governement offfice and have them fill out a form to certify that the car exists. Then I can go to the ministry of transport and do the paper work...
This sounds easy....
Any thoughts? My buddy said that I can still buy the car from the owner. |

In Alberta, you need a Bill of Sale. Take that to Registries, and if the VIN is not in the system, you will need to get an Out of Province Inspection before a plate will be issued. If it was stolen recently, Registries will have a record of it, and if it came from out of country recently, you will need an Out of Country inspection.
If it came into the country as a driver and was abandoned by draft dodging hippies, (We get a bunch of our buses this way)it isn't in the system anyhow, so all you need is an OOPI.
Different Rules and Regs from province to province though, so what is applicable in Alberta has no bearing at all on your bus in Ontario |

| Owner being the person who has the bus on their land or barn. :) |
