Bought one after looking for a few years. Pretty neat. Bigger than I thought it would be. Pretty sure it's a newer one.

I've got a line on an assistent - but im torn if i should choose the assistent or the 190 toolbox which is also sweet...
if say, you could get either for $150-ish which would it be? a used assistent or a new 190? my issue is I don't have much of a garage and its dirt floor. someday i might get a garage...in which case the assistent would be sweet. other hand the 190 could ride in the bus with me real easy.... how does the assistent rate for portability?
arg decisions decisions. any opinions would be appreciated.
thanks! |

I'd buy both -- I have a 190 and it makes an excellent traveling toolbox, but an Assistent in the garage would just top it off... |

I have both (pics a few pages back). Definitely get the Assistent if you can get one for $150! A 166N? That's a steal! The 190 is nice, but the Assistent is iconic, more spacious and fits in the back of my 968, so I am sure it would be no problem in your bus. |

Hello,
the 166C is not the replacement for the 166N as both of them are still in production. The 166C was designed 50% larger to allow the use of the Hazet tool logic system. I have both items in my Ebay store so you can see what I mean.
Hope that clarifies a little.

Jens
Jens, I had t seen your post here - welcome!
Guys, I didn't get my Assistent from him, but did place a decent sized Hazet tool order with him. Got the tools fast and cheap! I highly recommend him for any new Hazet purchases! |

That's where the tools are assorted in 2-component foam insert. E.g. like this one: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260794758080
So you can see immediately what's missing. |

An assistent on a dirt floor may be a pain but I would definitely buy it for $150. |

The Assistent is not really a carry-around thing. It weighs 25 kgs (50 lbs) without tools, so it's not as easy to carry in your car as Hazet makes it look like.
But the again it's a lot more value for the money compared with a new 190 toolbox. |

Well, the current 166N weighs 24.5 kgs which is around 50 lbs. I ship them regularly and pay for each lb, so it's true. Might be that they were lighter before. |

| Real Assistents are all close to 50lbs. Earlier ones are a little lighter and ones with with only one intermediate tray are obviously lighter. The Taiwanese knock off weighs about 25lbs. |

Well I still don't see any more of these in this thread, but I did finally find another one just like it at an antique show in Atlanta, GA. It was much nicer than mine, but they wanted $200 for it... since mine was $30 I think I will just keep it... |

Found this early (small a) cart today at the flea market. It's in really great shape minus the spray paint. I stripped some sections on the bottom and the original paint is beat. I don't need a second cart so this one will be for sale soon. (please excuse the shitty cell pic)

| I got it from some old vw mechanic 5+ years ago back when there was a vw show in toccoa ga. Iirc he was an old german guy, and I dont think his name was randy. This was the first one I ever saw like this and to date have only seen one other. |
