I can't see anything in the rear view mirror.
The front rides so high i feel like i'm lifting off the ground at speed.
perhaps the rears have sagged, but it's pretty bad.
Have considered these dropped spindles:

This was a barn find which sat for 18+ years down the street from me until I swooped in and "saved" her.
She's called Creamsicle right now but soon will be painted Kansas Beige… and will be called Sandy.

i am thinking of getting some WW drop spindles and wondered how much i would have to lower the rear to get an even drop?
The bus rides a little high at the front now but i think that might be because i have (PO) gas adjust KYB shocks on.
Would one click on the rear do it?
Also how how do you do "1 click on the rear?" |

The spindles in question are a 2" drop, so theoretically you would lower the rear 2 inches. Since your bus (and many other bays) has a saggy butt, the only way to know is trial and error. Install the spindles, then drive the bus to settle the suspension. Measure and proceed with the rear adjustment.
As for how to adjust the rear, get a Bentley manual for your bus. It has all the details. I have been intending to do a pictorial on how to raise the rear of my 68 bus. I took a bunch of pics, now I just need time and motivation to put it on paper (or screen ,as it were). |

the WW spindles are actually 2.5" drop.
Maybe my question was unclear, obviously if i drop the front by 2.5 then i know i need to drop the rear by 2.5 as well!!
so lets try this:
Is there any rule other than trial and error about how much 1,2,3 clicks lowers a rear?
I do have a Bentley as well (first purchase after the Bus) But sometimes it is easier to ask for peoples opinions/experiences than read a book. |

When you said your bus already rides a little high at the front I took that to mean that it had saggy rear suspension, like most of them do. Because of that, you can't assume that you would need to just drop the rear suspension the same distance as the front spindles.
I'm not sure what the direct correlation of degrees of springplate angle to inches of drop is, (Bentley has this info listed I believe) but if/when you have everything removed from your springplates and the bus is on jackstands in your shop you can just measure from the bottom of the springplate to the floor. Then move the springplate/torsion bar combo whatever amount looks right and measure again. There's your number.
I may be oversimplifying this, but it really is that simple once you do it. I have not yet lowered the rear of a bay window, I've only raised the rear. It's the same, only opposite directions. I have lowered split buses though. |

wagenst beam, drop spindles and horse shoe plates
what is the wheel and tire size on this? Is the beam narrowed? or just adjustable. This is the stance I want. |

| Has anyone had any experience with the 4.5" horse shoe plates from WagensWest? The ol' lady is planning on getting me some horse shoe plates for Valentines day, so I'm curious between the 3.5 and 4.5" drop. |

I'm building a 78 for my girlfriend, shes a travelbug thats always wanted a van and wants to be able to go anywhere including some country roads. I myself am in love with lowriders and the stock ride height just won't cut it, it looks too dumb. I would love to slam it but if it drags on the ground and makes loud scary noises she will be very unhappy. SO I'm looking for a mild drop, I already did my homework on the front beam and I will be building an adjustable this spring from my spare parts...
Now my question,
I like the look of the back tires with just a little rim hidden, but what method and distance of drop am I looking for to achieve this without having the wheels angle out (and look like somethings broken)??? I need to figure out how to get low enough that I'd be happy and she wouldn't notice its lowered.
I'm assuming horseshoes are the solution but what drop distance?
does anyone have some sample pictures of 2.5 thru 4.5 inch rear drops so I can find exactly what I'm looking for and save me a lot of homework and possibly a lot of shipping'n'handling fees? |

Look in my gallery at widefive.net
Chad's Bus on page 2 (white over red) just has my 3.25" U-Plates in the back. All the other Bays pictured are my plates and one outer notch on the spring plate.
Otherwise look back through this thread, lots of pix and lots of helpful people... |

Here is a pic of my 74 with with widefive.net 3.25 inch U plates. The front is adjustable with Wagenswest 2.5 inch lowered spindles. It has 185/14 commercial tires for now but they rub to much in the front bout to change them. Hope this helps. Chad

| Ok so I am going to be getting a ww beam with dropped spindles and plates in the back. But my question is about what tires to run for both stock 14's and 15' brm's, have not picked which I wanted to roll with. For the rear I want something with some load range that is not criminal insane and as large as I can go, but doesn't make the rear end look like its jacked compaired to the front. Also I don't want to put in any tubs. The front will have some small little tires. Ideas? Also pros cons of the two rim diameter when looking at it from the point of what tire you will be running. |

Thats a link pin beam, narrowed with drop spindles and probably some body tubs. check out the T2D bus for mega low without air!
T2D "flip" balljoint kit is superb, uses best quality balljoints available and fits really well. Pricey but not so bad now the ass has dropped out of the £! |

| Pkrboo, look back a few pages. I am pretty sure fastwagens is using the old speed spindles on the red and white bus. I am running the wagenswest. Chad. |
