So over the past week I've scoured this forum looking for an under 1000 dollar way to properly lower my bus 6in or so and have finally come to the conclusion its impossible. So wagens west I give in! I'm going to order a complete 4in narrowed front end spindle to spindle with 4.5in horse shoe plates in the rear. I hope your happy!

It can be done for waaay less money...

I am getting mixed answers on this. Will a beam from a 67 bolt right in to a 70? I just picked up a narrowed LP beam from a 67 split bus.

I was told you could just drill new holes in the sideplates but I dont know that for sure. Can new holes be drilled in the frame of the bus????

are those sideplates just new side plates for the beam or is it like a 1970 frame to 1967 beam adapter?

You have to cut off the old plates and weld these on

It is possible that the beam you bought already has the dual pattern.

here are some pics of my 70 after the winter hibernation. I finished up my rear safari late last year. I wasnt paying for a prebuilt safari and decided I would make my own from scratch. It will tilt out past 90 degrees if needed.

nice '70 man. I've seen pics of that bus somwhere else before too, I like the bull lol. bad ass job on that rear safari too. mine's sittin way too high right now but that will be changed soon. cant wait too scrape me some beam. I would post pics but I'm pretty stupid when it comes to computers so I cant quite figure that one out lol.

Is it possible to install beam adjusters without removing the beam itself? No I'm not narrowing it. I have ordered drop spindles and am just going for a few more inches of drop.

Got any pictures of how you did the rear safari????

Looks like some angle or channel rolled to the window shape, with a hinge and the strut.

Awesome work, looks like the corner bends are right at the limit of a nice bend for that material. I agree those things are overpriced as hell.

turbo_dub Wed Apr 07, 2010 6:04 am

thanks for the comments. the safari was made using a window frame from a 90's dodge rear window. i actually cut it into about 25 pieces and welded it to the new shape.
