very nice^ 8)

in the next week or so im going to put an adjustable beam in my 70 and i just happened to have developed a slow leak in my rear tire. after finding the thread that allows you to identify the age of your tires, i found mine were made in the 34th week of . . . . . . 1996.

so i think now is as good a time as any to swap em for new tires that will give me the look im goin after on it.

ive been told a 185/60/14 will give me a lowered look im after and have seen examples. that would be ok i guess but really not the look im goin for. . . . . . . i want smaller. . . .

so i was told if im bold enough, a 195/45/14-front 195/60/14-rear is the direction to go. but im not a tire expert and i dont know what this would look like or if it is what im really going after.

after poking around the bay forum i know im going to find alot of purists who will start preaching. im relaly not trying to hear it. i understand your argument. but i drive this thing less than 500 miles a year and i see the highway twice a year if im lucky. i dont drive in the rain. its a sunny weather slow cruiser.

so if you have 195/45/14-front 195/60/14-rear and can provide a picture to help me visualize it, i would really appreciate it.

and for the haters, at least im not pulling torsion leaves.

sup turbo dub.. I think just decide on how low you want your bus, I mean the small wheels your speaking of belong on a slammed ride ie 195/45/14. If not then that small tire will look exposed to much if not slammed..Hard to explain really but, if your not planning to slam all the way down try thinking of 185/55/14 in the front or all the way down to the nuts with 155/55/14(very hard to find in the US) You need to do some research on your total drop and tire size before buying tires..I think just adj. beam will get ya 5 to 6 inches, and if that is all you plan on dropping then my opinion would be for the 185/55/14, and if you can afford it get a narrowed beam and drop spindles also. You wont regret that.. As for the rear imo I think 185/60/14 or 175/65/14 for a stock rim.. Hope thats a start for ya..Also try to get your tire in the highest weight rating when possible... PZz homie

that is exactly the tire look i am going for! thats the info i was looking for.

as far as the ride height im goin for, im building the adjustable beam myself. it is temporary. i want a beam and tires as low as i can go and then later when i get a bit more cash, ill rais the beam and add drop spindles to finalize what im after. however, i really need tires NOW and only want to buy then once!

and for the record, im also a water cooled mk3 jetta guy and i have my coils twisted all the way down tuckin tires on my 16's all day every day. driving a lowrider is a way of life for me! i know the look im goin for on this rusty bay and will do what ever it takes to get it that way.

anyone sell them?

There are no bus adjusters in this style because of the Pitman arm box on the front of the bus beam. The single best adjusters to get are the ones mentioned earlier from CB Performance. They have larger teeth than any other adjuster I've seen and I doubt you would ever have a problem with them stripping out. Here's a picture.

i just got off the phone with cb because i saw this was for a "narrowed beam". i just wanted to verify it would work on my 70 bay stock beam and the lady said it was for an earlier beam (thought it was a thinner beam) and thus this would not work. . . . .

it this true? seems others here say they used the cb perforamce adjusters but she said they didnt have em for the bay windows. . . .

HELP!

Those will work on bays

I don't know for sure but, I know split beams differ in tube size from bays..A quick check from busboys shows 2 distinctive kits, one for 1955 to 1967 and another for 1968 to 1979...

The tube diameter on the 55-67 Bus beams is roughly 2.3" while BayWindow beams are 2.5". The difference in minimal. I have used the PUMA Type2 adjusters from CB Performance on the Ball Joint BayWindow beams with no problems.

Found this on Youtube this morning... Love it!

I guess this is where I have to post my question, since I can't do it in the "normal forum area". Hope someone sees this, let's see. Anyhow. I'm lowering the rear on my '71 and don't know what the difference is between turning the inside splines or the outside splines. I want to go down "two notches", but which splines shounld be adjusted.

Anyone out there? :D

2 notches is referring to the outer splines that the spring plates sit on

iprangen Tue Aug 19, 2008 5:48 pm

If only the outter notches need to be adjusted in order to lower the rear, then why do some people also do the inner splines? :?:

VWsArent4Hippies Tue Aug 19, 2008 6:37 pm

Just to fine tune their ride height. A combo of inner and outer splines will get you in the middle of if you just did the outers. IMO it's pointless to adjust inners when youre only talking around 3 inches per outer spline

Are you saying that each notch on the outer spline is 3 inches in height? I was going to lower two clicks and I does this would mean it would go down 6 inches?
