You have the correct dash. The change in dash did not happen until much later in the model year. In other words, an early 67 dash looks like a 66 dash. Many of the changes mentioned in this thread are mid model year changes.

Hence the GlennOS / Transporter yin and yang of early vs. late '67 bus minutiae.

What does that have to do with the dash? Someone said the dash in a 67 is different that the rest. Other that the 4 way flasher switch, black knobs and the 12V sticker, the dash looks the same as the 64 and 66 I had.

66 dash

67 dash

Great pictures and discription I would love to find a good book with all the transporter changes including photos. I'm buying 3 more books now I report when they arrive.

Anyone out know how to remove a rear hatch latch? I can't free the hook from the post and it is closed & unlocked now. I was going to drill out the rivet any sugestions before i do that?
Thanks Linda

I am always learning something new about these quirky 67s.

My 67 has

67 dash
66 master cylinder
No reverse lights

I have a very early '67 (build 5th july 1966) with late radio plate and single master cylinder.

Please keep technical questions about as particular bus to a single thread.

Actually, the dash is kinda earlyish in the model year. It seems to be within the first two months or so of of the model year from what I've seen from build dates. The dual circuit master cylinder seems to be the same.

I was able to narrow down the reverse lights to about the third week of January or so just from looking at buses that had them/didn't and looking at their build dates. I don't know if this is the same for trucks or not, though.

hey,
I've got a 67, looked when it was built and its the 12th of April 67, so it would have been one of the last off the production line!

I've never seen a 4 way flasher knob at any shows as mine is missing, would love to get one!

67 VIN question?

Hopefully I am understanding this correctly. Would the first 67 splittie have the vin 217 000 001?

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/chassisdating.php

Therefore, there was 20,467 produced in the first build out month of August 1966?

When did they stop building 67s?
I've got a 4/24/67 build date....

I would think so. Mine is #426. If anyone knows or an earlier one, please let me know, I've been trying to find out about one since I got my '67 3 1/2 years ago.

I thaught the same thing. There is no way they could produce that volume and if you look up the total production run for the 1967 model year it works out to be much less. I think the numbers are total VW production for the model year all models. Mine was built Aug 1 1966 and is number 247002740 No way they made close to 3000 units in one day. In one month possibly.

One of the last few thousand anyway.

The bus with vin 217 000 001 was actually built during July of '66 rather than August of '66. So technically the '67 model year probably should be listed as having started during July rather than August.

I've got a 67 with a build date of May 24, 67. Now how can I figure out how many more were built after that so I can realistically say "one of the last X number splits built?" (probably in the thousands I'm sure) but it makes for a good story.

And as far as I can tell, I have the full arrangement of quirky 67 parts since it was so late into the 67 build..

The funny thing is it was delivered to the port of San Francisco in 67, yet it never became a hippie bus as far as I can tell. And it sure as hell won't be one now!

I can't answer your question, but your bus was built about 2 weeks after mine.
