And as far as I can tell, I have the full arrangement of quirky 67 parts since it was so late into the 67 build..

The funny thing is it was delivered to the port of San Francisco in 67, yet it never became a hippie bus as far as I can tell. And it sure as hell won't be one now!

I can't answer your question, but your bus was built about 2 weeks after mine.

Heidi's '67 Westy is 237139230 dated June 19th tourist delivery.

Hopefully I am understanding this correctly. Would the first 67 splittie have the vin 217 000 001?

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/chassisdating.php

Therefore, there was 20,467 produced in the first build out month of August 1966?

I thaught the same thing. There is no way they could produce that volume and if you look up the total production run for the 1967 model year it works out to be much less. I think the numbers are total VW production for the model year all models. Mine was built Aug 1 1966 and is number 247002740 No way they made close to 3000 units in one day. In one month possibly.

The bus with vin 217 000 001 was actually built during July of '66 rather than August of '66. So technically the '67 model year probably should be listed as having started during July rather than August.

The build date for my 67 is July 06, 1966. The VIN shows it to be numbered just over a 1000 for the build year.

I wonder how many 67s have a 66 dash? Can't be very many.

It's been widely theorized that the July 1966 plates were stamped for production beginning in August. Remember that the date stamped on the plate is NOT the day it was produced.

For as long as I've had my '67, I know soooo little about it. This is great and explains a lot.

How do you all know what month you bus was made in?

What I have found funny is I have a October 1966 born with old style dash and some others I have seen threads on say they have September 1966 with new dash. I guess when they made mine they found a stash of older dashes in the back room and decided to use them up again. <grin>

Or did they make these at different manufacturing plants?

My kombi manufacturer date July 6th

237000615 bus 615 of '67 model year....
I have 67 dash, '67 gas lid, single master cylinder, no reverse lights.

what model is yours? I'm thinking Westy's were held up longer on the production line ... so more 66's were released as '67s ?

My October production '67 w/t standard has the '67 dash, '67 gas door, '66 brakes, and '66 taillights.

#615, really? and with a '67 dash. If so, that narrows it down even more.
Mine is #426 with the '66 dash, but it's a 13 window, not a Westy.

I have a panel that I believe was converted to a sportsmobile(not totally sure of conversion). It has the same build date (06 7) and the same--67dash, 67 gas lid, single master cyl, no reverse lights, and 67 handles for deck lid and hatch, although I have a pre 67 cargo door handle.
