Anyone out there make re-pop round grilles for a split? I have been looking around and you just cant find any OG or Repop!
Also, why do I see some splits with both grilles and some with only one? Just wondering what would be correct for my 52...
Thanks! |

Good Question, I was going to ask the same on who repops the small round horn grills.
Also, the difference is one grill is on the standard cars and two on the deluxe export cars. On these, the passenger side is used as a "dummy" grill with a small backing plate covering the hole and used mainly for show and decoration. |

| I bought a set from Bill Dierickx Wolfsburg Warehouse for 125. They are the heavy duty chrome steel and not the crappy aluminum ones you find for sale. The steel holds up better and the tabs that often break can be soldered. I believe Matts Parts has NOS ones still in packaging |

What about the standard zwitter split? Would there be just the one or would it mount on the bumper like the double glovebox cars? |

| On a Zwitter, the horn would be behind the fender (std. and deluxe), behind oval grills. Both sides would have the grill, both fenders punched, but the right side had a black blanking plate. On the Std. the horn grills were painted body color. |

The "real standards never had the hornring on passangerside... Possibly on the Canadian Standards though??
There never have been a "backingplate" behind the passangerside hornring either. If they had the hornring there where only 4 small holes punched to fit the ring...
This is a Standard Zwitter. Only one oval hornring...

This -56 doesn't have the pass. side hornring either...

And neither do my -63 standard...

I guess I'm in a picky mood, but just what is a "re-pop" anyways?
NOS = New Old Stock
NORS = New Old Replacement Stock (may or may not be OEM)
OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer
Repro = Reproduction
Original = Original from VW factory
Re-pop = ? |

Oh yeah? :D
I bet I had you going there for a minute.
This is my own car, which was restored in Germany in the '70s before anyone really knew the answers.
It probably should have the horn on the bumper, but looks pretty good the way it is. |

Hi. Is it possible that a Standard VW from early june 1949 could have one horngrill, and the horn mounted inside the front fender? My car have, but it also has been through a left side chrash in the early 70 s, so It could also had been replacements parts after the chrash. |

| I was in the construction equipment business for 30 years and selling equipment oversea's was challenging. Countries have different safety requirements, safety markings, devices, etc. It's the same with cars. And 60 years ago it must have been wild. |
