So any reasons why this mango safari bus hasn't been snapped up? I keep looking at it, but then it seems like there must be something I'm missing...

Looks like a pretty good deal especially for the south. The factory safaris and 15" stock wheels alone make it worth something. Thanks for pointing that out, .....maybe it's time for a road trip. |

| With all of the old buses that have been sent out of California, that bus is one that would probably sell if it were in northern California. |

I think maybe people are scared off by the front floors. When they see floors like that, they think the entire bus is pooched without realizing that front floors are the worst of it because of fifty years of leaking safari's.
That bus looks reasonably priced to me. |

Hope I'm linking this right, but here goes: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=685386
Though I'm sad to see a friend sell this, I wanted to attest to its worth. I've ridden in this bus at freeway speeds, in traffic, under load, at night, you name it. If you need a bus you can immediately enjoy this winter- this is the vehicle. Too many 10k buses require too much work to immediately enjoy. It is ready for camping now, while you collect a few pieces needed to dive into the body later, if need be. I passed on it as my vert project gets all my money... Anyway, my .02.

Hoppen to get a sellers assist fee from your buddy for the post! That seams a little high for a non pop top westy with rust in rockers and missing the ice box and one westy light! Also has hack job air vent in rear seat bottom. I'd say more like $6250 But going in to winter you mite not get that. |

I do see poptops commanding the price- but you're right, the stiff roofs are valued lower. I think what makes this camper exceptional and hence a value is it is ready to go camping. I think the seller understated it's mechanical advantages- and was very specific about the body- as he is a bodyman. I'm an assman myself....
Around here friends don't usually have to spiff eachother- and my remarks about his bus were completely unsolicited. I am trying to repent for the sins I always participate in on the official whine thread. :)

Check out this pristine Privy tent I scored at the Karls show in Phoenix. It was for sale with a sign on the guys table when I walked up. Owner was a super nice guy and an ex-marine who bought it at the first Bad Camberg meet while stationed there. I have a nice so34 and was missing the tent and we made a deal. This is the best condition tent I have ever seen. Not one pinhole, perfect seams, zippers, vinyl and tenax fasteners. Looks like it was put up twice...maybe. Just when you think this stuff isnt out there anymore...........my bus was for sale.........but now I have to keep it.......the gods have spoken.

Unless bus prices are going down as fast as GM's sales, this looks like a good deal to me, why hasn't it sold? Compared to the over-accesorized westy currently on ebay, now at $35K, where someone is going to end up paying about $100 for each of those "vintage" coke bottles (oops wait, that is a whine), this is a deal. Sure, it needs a few more touches (ice box, mirrors, etc. ), but that is part of the fun, and it looks like a really solid westy:

I agree its a nice looking westy for the price compared to others that have sold but in my opinion, I think most most Westy purchasers are looking for things like original paint, correct details if restored such as interior color, wood grain, and most of all complete with the harder to find items. Its also missing small bits as well including spice rack, poptop canvas, etc... Both rear corners have rattle can spray paint and frame and rails underbody look like unpainted shiny metal. The previous seller photo links showed before and after resto pics and the underside in detail and I thought it was odd if those particular sections were replaced or why they looked like that.
I too am curious why it hasnt sold repeatedly. If you remember, this bus is from Sacramento and it sat in the classifieds for a long time last year, first at $13,000 and I think it finally ended up selling around $9,000 or $9,500 in the end. Maybe a Sac local could provide more insight on the bus.
I think if it was OG paint, complete and detail correct it would bring the usual high dollar Westy range. |

It seems like an ok deal to me, but the thing that makes me not trust it is available in the first three ad words: "westy fresh paint". I see it's painted over a corner dent, then touched up by Ray Charles. Fresh may mean it still smells? I don't yet see it in the ranks of good deal thread, nor appropriate for the whine thread. Simply, a classified...
