Just a reminder that time is getting close. I talked to Jim today and he is going to post a map of the place. How about a show of hands and state cabin or campground. I know we did this before, but I can no longer see that info. I know Don, Jim, and I are each for cabin. I think UncleBob, and Racetearoffs are campers. I can't remember past that. Jim has reserved 4 cabins, I believe they are 2 bedrooms each. Depending on how many people we get we may need to double up.

Hope to see lots of people and buggies there. Anyone still in touch with Mvovr? Did he get his buggy fixed and is he still planning to come. Please put him and anyone else on to this.

Thanks, Chuck

Here's the specifics if 'yall missed it:

The meet is going to be on the weekend of the 25th. The quote below is from the Manx Club website. I plan on going down and camping Saturday, staying through 'till Sunday. I hope to bring the rail instead of the buggy this time, but I don't know if it will be finished by then.

Quote: We are going to be North of Hwy 40 on Hwy 19 in the town of Salt Springs.

Look at the attached Ocala National Forest REC area- #5 is North on Hwy 19 from there is Forest Road 77 - the west end of that road is the "Dune Area".
Just South of Hwy 40 is the swimming hole that I talked about.

Here is a link to the Campground Map = Salt Springs Camground
Here is a link to the OFF ROAD VEHICLE map. Since most if not all of the buggys are street legal - we are good to go just about anywhere there is a trail - we are a bit self limiting due to the chance of scratching the buggy.

I sent Mvovr an e-mail through the other sight. You should be hering from him!

I updated the message at the other site....

Chuck and I discussed the idea of GPS fox-n-hound treasure hunts and also just some trail riding to an off road destination...

(I wish my buggy was ready - just call me a hitch-hiker)

Hopefully we can get some maps and make some kind of purposeful runs. Maybe some sights to see. Lakes, streams, mountains  Anyone here do any Geocaching? I'll look and see if there are any hidden deep in the forest. I think that would be fun.

Reminder:

If you're bringing non-street legal vehicles, you might want to camp at Rodman Reservoir Campground. This campground is the nearest to the sand-pit, and non-street legal areas. Quads would need to be trailered into the sand-pit. I'll be staying here. Look for the Green Rail and/or Maroon Buggy, Black Jeep, and a bunch of quads.

Here's the location.

Well, what are you waiting for? Come throw a few beers back with us!

I'll be attending Saturday. Actually, I have a question.

I won't be in an off-road vehicle, does anyone have an extra spot for a friendly stranger? (not too friendly). I'd hate to drive to Ocala just to see you guys run off into the trails all day and sit by myself :(

I know my wife is willing to give up some of her seat time if she has someone to hang out with at the spring or pool if there is one. Maybe shopping with the women. I think that would be a road trip from there though. I think Jim will be hitching a ride also.

I need to get my camp deal confirmed . We will get to the campground friday maybe or Sat By 11 or so . I cut out some cool stickers and will make a banner or something for Photo ops . Working a bug out of the carb this weekend and might get a different exhaust to install ,and seat belts . face plate for switches , see if I have bigger sand friendly tires for the rear , 4 lug , tie down battery box . No problem see you there 8) .

bugdust Sat Mar 18, 2006 7:29 pm

I doubt if I will have my buggy going by then. :( I may take the quads down Sunday??

I called today about the Rodman campground reservations and they sounded pretty booked up . I made reservations but it sounds like you need to get there as early as possible Friday afternoon . I tried for 2 hrs this monday morning to call they are busy wow . Im guessing spring break and bikini girls running all over the place . Im hoping Jim made some camping reservations before today , but we are thinking to leave Crystal River around noon Friday to secure a camping site . It about a 1.5 hr trip .

UncleBob Mon Mar 20, 2006 10:25 am

I made reservations the week before last at Rodman for 3 sites Saturday. 2 with full hookups, and one primitive. The old fellow taking the reservations did say it was going to be a busy weekend. I hope they don't overbook, or they'll have an 30' Class-A, Pop-Up, 2 sandrails, 5 quads, 2 Bajas and a Jeep parked at the Boat Ramp...

I think most of the 'glass buggy guys will be over at Salt Springs Campground. I hope they come over to the sand area to visit?

Bikini Girls running all over the place? This is Ocala..

Lodge check in information:

On Hwy 19 Downtown Salt Springs - Advantage Realty is just north of the Hwy 314 intersection. That is the place to pick up the keys and check in.

The lodges are located on Hwy 314 about 1 mile west of 19 on the north side of the road - enter at the parking lot of Shellcrackers

I have a detailed map of the forest with all the trails on it... Will share with everyone. There is a great little cafe (Square Meal ) That opens at 5:30 for breakfast on Sat Morning (I wont be there that early though) and the Knife, Fork and Spoon nextdoor is open for supper. Dont plan on your cell phone working out there - my Nextel and Verizon service was dead out there. Spoke to another person that has Alltel - theirs didnt work either... IN THE BOONIES!!!

If any of you have any questions, I will be leaving to go out about noon Friday - so I can be reached on my cell prior to then...

Florida_Buggy Thu Mar 23, 2006 8:10 am

Can someone tell me where and when would be good to meet up on Saturday morning. I can be there at any time. I don't know anybody and don't have cell numbers (and even if I did, it sounds like they wouldn't work). I just don't want to drive to Ocala and not see anyone.

UncleBob Thu Mar 23, 2006 8:43 am

My group won't be getting in until just before lunch, and setting up. My cell (Sprint) had coverage at camp last time I was out, just barely. PM me if you want to swap numbers.

Hopefully the wife will get tired of riding and I can free up a seat.

Yellermanx Thu Mar 23, 2006 9:05 am

I'll contact Jim and Don and see if they would like to meet for breakfast Saturday morning at the restaurant mentioned above. We will already be in contact with each other since we are staying at the same place Friday night. I'll post time tonight if it's OK with them.

UncleBob, I see your entourage is bringing some non street legal stuff. Are ya'll planning to stay in the Rodman sand pit area? I'm going to take a few Geocaching coodinates that from the pictures looks like other sand pits and hills.

We could set a time to meet at the Rodman pit in the afternoon also.

Turbo_Buggy, Are you staying over night?

Chuck

UncleBob Thu Mar 23, 2006 9:28 am

Chuck,

Yeah, we'll be at the same campground we were at last time, since it's closer to the sand area. Hit me up with those Geocache Coordinates.

Let me know when you want to meet.
