The floor on my 1966 Bug is apparently damp right under the brake pedal. Not very wet, but there is a slippery substance that has been soaked up by the tar board under the carpet. My first thought is that this is brake fluid leaking from the master cylinder, but I could be wrong. This car has been in the garage under a cover for 3 months, so it's not water.

My brakes are perfectly fine....they stop the car well and don't feel spongy....is it possible that my MC is leaking into the car by the pushrod?

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe,
Yes, take a smell of the fluid. Then open a bottle of brake fluid, and take a smell of it. Same smell, then same stuff.

could also be a tiny pinhole in the front to rear metal line.

there was a post here not long ago about the same thing. It was a pinhole leak in the brake line (which runs through the car on the drivers side of the tunnel). if it were the MC, you would not likely see fluid inside the car.
