I added the missing dates you mentioned to the first post in this thread.
214307 is November, 1956. I don't know if any one could say you need 11/56 wheels but 10/56 or 11/56 should be accurate.
If there is a date on the inside then yes, you could remove any tires that is there and look on the inside. The text is large - you will see it. |

Quote: 15" wheel usage:
15" wheels were used March, 1955 to December 19, 1963, chassis # 1222026 (August 5, 1963, chassis # 1145427 for 1 ton models) . So if I understand this correctly,my 12/9/63 singlecab should have 14" rims because it is a 1 ton? |

There are 1 ton option buses with modified small nut tranny and brakes with 15 inch rims preceding the date switchover to 14" bus rim 1 ton production.
So, no, the 1 ton designation is not dispositive of 14 inchedness. |

so last week end i bought this crows foot wheel for my bus, and after taking a closer look at it i saw that the date on the rim and the date on the center piece are not the same. anyone ever seen this or know s why?
left overs? nothing goes to waste....
the rim says 1/57
the center piece says 3/57
and from this angle it looks like 4/57 but actualy is 1/57

| That is normal, the inner and outers often have slightly different production dates on the ones I have checked. |

I wouldn't mind locating any Feb, March or April 1959 Crowsfoot rims for my April '59 Double Cab... hell, I'd even consider a decent condition set of normal rims with those dates. I have several 15" Bus rims to trade or $s.

I have never seen anyone explain the meaning of 1581 but maybe this the Lemmerz model #? (guess)
4 1/2 K x 15 is the size.
4 1/2 inches wide by 15 inches in diameter.
Tire bead profile K
If you want to learn more about the tire profile letters, I have found information via Google in the past. |
