Here's my submission, I posted this on here about 5 years ago but nobody knew to much about it then. It's a NOS trip speedo with bright orange highlights. Looks like it may have been for a ambulance or ladder truck? Warning not to go to fast? No idea but it will go on one of my buses one day.

Wonder why it goes all the way to 140? Its doesnt seem like it would be for a bus...but hey maybe it was for a speedy bus..

You are aware how fast 140 KMH is, right?

Geoff, Samba member EspenX has a firebus and a military bus in Europe, maybe he has seen someting like that. Cool.

That is awsome! I have never seen one like that, but I am no expert.

In my fire bus the speedo is standard for a euro bay I think. And as busdaddy pointed out, 140 km/h is not that fast :)

i was wondering how common this grill set up is, i've not seen any pictures elsewhere:

the middle knob controls the gas and there is a grill pan that slots in underneath.

I wonder if it's meant to be used in conjunction with something like this? Gotta keep track of those wild government workers :P

Look really closely at that speedo, it's got a trip button and the line at 50.
That line at 50 is something seen on older cars from Britain, some even had a red light that went on at 30 MPH, bigtime speed laws I guess.

I've seen that middle knob on some UK delivered campers but there's never been anyting connected to it, does that thing sticking up out of the range plug into something and have a burner in it? Some kind of crazy crumpet toaster perhaps? Radiant broiler? Cool.

EspenX Sat Oct 10, 2009 9:40 am

I have the red line at 50 on both my buses. I think it is standard at least on euro buses.

I can't really back this up, but I have allways thought the red line marked how fast you should go in 2nd gear.

I just checked my manual, and it does say 50 km/h is the limit for 2nd gear and they recommend it only for short periods.

Hahahahah

Crumpet toaster

hipshaker Sat Oct 10, 2009 1:22 pm

it does indeed light up. gas comes through a little nozzle. i hook the grill pan up underneath and ... er .... toast my crumpets!!

Very cool, we demand action pictures!
The panel of expert celebrity judges will be judging on creativity, plating/presentation, and taste

Weird... I had a dream last night that I found a crumpet-toaster in a box of parts...

hipshaker Sun Oct 11, 2009 9:41 am

well, i bought some crumpets this morning and went to the sea front. here are the results:

and my carry on plate ... in honour of the "crumpets":

Hahahahaha... Outstanding! That is one really cool little unit, very nice! and that plate? wow!

After much deliberation our expert panel of judge has declared you the new iron bus chef, deposing the reining champion 73Kombi and his dipstick dogs.

hipshaker Sun Oct 11, 2009 9:54 am

aah ..... i'm honoured. although the dipstick dogs sound interesting!!

as i said previously, i haven't seena picture of one before but apart from here the only vw site i spend any real time on is the earlybay site .... and my interior is from a later bay. i must admit, i bought the interior last year and never gave the grill much thought. only when it was in did i start looking and thought it was good.

the plate ..... from a set my g/f bought me for christmas. 2 of each, small plate, large plate, cups, bowls. made me chuckle when i opened them!

That is simply fantastic!

Mountain Minstrel Sun Oct 11, 2009 12:13 pm

That is the b  mb. I have never seen anything like that before.

hipshaker Sun Oct 11, 2009 3:04 pm

cheers, so maybe a uk only option?

the interior came out of a rhd van.

when i bought it the couple i collected it from had a 1979 westfalia in their driveway but i think my interior is a 1974-75 style.

I too once had some crumpet on Pompey seafront, every girl loves a sailor
Seriously, what a unique piece of kit. Toast is always missed on camping trips if you havent a pukka grill. Those contraptions you put your bread on, then place over your gas ring do not cut the mustard.
